A few months ago, I came across a personal blog here on HN with the main feature being about ~4 sliders that change the weights of all posts and rank them in real time. I think some of the sliders were for "popularity", "recency" and perhaps "author's score". I also think, but I'm not sure, that the blog featured general ML topics.

I played with the sliders for sometime and had a great time exploring the blog, but I have since failed to find it again. I should've bookmark it then.

Does anyone have some clue about it? Much appreciated

I write a lot privately (notes, mini-essays, thinking-through problems). Paul Graham’s idea that essays are a way to learn really resonates with me. But I rarely publish anything beyond occasional LinkedIn posts.

My blockers:

•“Nobody needs this” / “It’s not original”

•“AI can explain most topics better than I can”

•A bit of fear: shipping something that feels naive or low-signal

At the same time, I read a lot of personal blogs + LinkedIn and I do get real value from them — mostly from perspective, lived experience, and clear thinking, not novelty.

For those of you who blog (or used to):

•What made it worth it for you?

•What kinds of posts actually worked (for learning, career, network, opportunities)?

•Any practical format that lowers the bar (length, cadence, themes)?

•If you were starting today, what would you do differently?

I’m not trying to build a media business — more like building a “public notebook” that compounds over years.

When thoughtful technical writing could lead to speaking gigs, job offers, and meaningful connections?

But in 2025, the landscape has shifted dramatically:

- LinkedIn's algorithmic feed heavily favors short-form "broetry" over substantive technical content - Twitter/X has become a battleground of AI-generated hot takes - Medium is drowning in SEO-optimized tutorials that all say the same thing

Unless you're already established or willing to play the AI-SEO game, it feels impossible to build genuine readership for a technical blog in 2025.

Yet part of me wonders if I'm just being cynical. Maybe there's still value in writing for its own sake? Or perhaps there are distribution channels I haven't considered?

For those still maintaining personal blogs: How do you find readers? Where do you share your content? And most importantly - why do you keep writing?
