Ask HN: Alternatives to WordPress for Personal Blogging

Hello

I have been using Wordpress as my blogging platform (https://chapra.blog). I also run a newsletter via kit. Not all my posts go out as a newsletter.

My problem is my workflow. I compose in Notion, then copy and paste in wp. If it is a newsletter post, I also do that in Kit. This can be tedious. Which makes me write less.

I also sometime cross post to Medium.

I am looking for an alternative that:

- Is a working CMS that can handle both web and a newsletter. - Can easily cross-post to Medium when wanted to. - Works with Markdown. - Is cheap to host.

Ghost looked promising, but costs 5 times my current plan for WP.

Requirements: - Write software engineering blogs with markdown - Open IDE, write some thoughts, push new version of the blog from my terminal - Be able to host on github for free - Be able to display code with syntax (I guess if it supports markdown it will support that too?) - Maintain structure e.g. post dates, navigation, post tags - Ability to have a page about me

Bonus points - be able to personalise a little bit the look and feel if I wanted to e.g. font

No need for: - comments on blog posts

What are my options?
