<![CDATA[Ask HN: Any non tech, interesting personal blogs to recommend?]]>I know people here have long curated lists of blogs they follow so I was wondering if you have any non tech related personal blogs you think are interesting and worth checking out.

I have a very niche side project I'm curating that's related to personal blogs but it's hard to break the tech bubble because most people with blogs are devs and they write about mostly tech and they link to other tech blogs so it's a never ending loop.

I'd love to get some suggestions if you have any. My email is on my profile if for some reason you have a huge OPML file you want to share.

Thanks!

<![CDATA[Ask HN: Examples of clean design in personal blogs / digital portfolios?]]>I saw someone post their personal blog many months ago, and even though I didn’t save it, the thing that stood out to me was the website’s usage of type formatting and it’s own internal baked in reader-view, and it just felt so good to browse the site because of how clean, yet modern it felt. Since then I try to visit as many personal sites that get posted on here for visual and structural inspiration so I’d love to see some more examples. Please note, clean design doesn’t always have to equal minimal.

What are some of your favourite examples of when design is implemented well on personal sites?

<![CDATA[Ask HN: What is the best CMS for personal blogs?]]>I want to be able to edit posts from mobile, prefereably a setup with static generation and minimal JS.

Right now I'm using standard markdown SSG, which I like, it's lightweight and resilient but that setup has its own imperfections, mainly lacking on ease of editing while on the road. I also would like to seperate the blog from my website code and commits.

<![CDATA[Show HN: Hacker News Personal Blogs]]>Recently there was a post where many of the folks on the site shared their own blogs: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36575081

Then someone came up with an idea to aggregate the corresponding RSS feeds into a single file: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36627112

There, someone asked the following:

> Is there an easy way to make a feed of feeds? So one RSS feed for all these?

Which made me create the site above, which has RSS feeds of either all the blogs or the top 100 users' blogs (if the ordering of the OPML is unchanged), sorted by date and organized by year, so you don't end up killing your RSS reader.

I also set everything up so that you can view the posts and blogs in your web browser as HTML, but frankly it ends up being a less pretty version of Blogs.hn: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36613727

Regardless, I bet there is no issue with me sharing my site either! Actually, parsing all of the XML feeds, cleaning up some invalid data and generating static HTML/XML files out of that with proper ordering was quite the challenge. Maybe I'll write a blog post about it later.

Currently everything is hosted on a separate VPS, if the web server dies, should restart automatically. The files are quite big, so that is somewhat likely. Currently the data is re-generated a few times per day not to create too much of a load on the blogs themselves.

<![CDATA[Ask HN: Which personal blogs or websites do you follow and read regularly?]]>I read Paul Graham's blog.

A few others are:

James Somers - https://jsomers.net/

Patrick Collison - https://patrickcollison.com/about

I like the last two especially because they maintain a bookshelf of all the read books and why they like or dislike them.

<![CDATA[Ask HN: What are some good personal blogs/sites with RSS feeds available?]]>I’ve recently resolved (happy 2022, all) to be marginally more intentional about my choice of media consumption. In particular, using an RSS reader to collect articles from individual blogs. I enjoy infrequently updated personal blogs/sites, with high quality articles from individual writers who are “experts” in their respective fields, rather than e.g. “daily news”/lists of pointers/references. As far as subject matter/field goes, I’m open to anything. I find that the average value I get out of well-reasoned articles in fields other than my own (read: computers) is much higher than those in my own field of work. To that end, I’d love to hear of any high signal/noise personal sites you enjoy reading that are syndicated via RSS, to help bootstrap this process.
