Something similar to Twitter but kind of worse and better in its own way.

I had an idea that if users are allowed to embed the threads to their posts, it acts like a simple comment section.

Try it out, no accounts required.

<![CDATA[Show HN: AboutIdeasNow – search /about, /ideas, /now pages of 7k+ personal sites]]>Hi HN!

It’s hard to find interesting people to work with on your ideas.

Our solution: index the /about, /ideas, /now pages of 1000s of personal websites. There are thousands of cool personal sites out there, with amazing ideas on them, but there’s nowhere to easily search through. So we built a simple site that indexes 7k+ personal sites [0]. We were inspired by Derek Sivers’ Now page movement [1] and other IndieWeb directories [2], but we figured that it would be more useful if we:

* Let you search directly across personal sites without having to visit them

* Take the content from 3 specific pages, /about, /now and /ideas, to structure everything

* Define /ideas pages as a space to articulate things you want to work on

We hope this’ll be a cool place for people to find others to collaborate with - would love your feedback. If you’d like your site to appear at the top, add it via the form and add a last updated date of today (any format). It’s completely open source (MIT) and open to contributions [3]!

<![CDATA[Ask HN: Recently posted directory of personal sites/blogs?]]>Within the last month or so, there was a site posted that seemed to be a directory of personal websites/blogs organized by topic/theme that made it to the front page, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it again. The only result I'm finding is blogsurf.io (search engine), but this isn't what I'm thinking of.

I seem to recall the site, oddly enough, also having a purple background.

If anyone can refresh my memory it would be greatly appreciated.

<![CDATA[Ask HN: Indexing a Set of Personal Sites]]>I am sure all of us have bookmarked/collected many URLs over time due to various reasons. As this collection grows it becomes difficult to maintain a record of what each URL was interesting for (why I saved it), which makes some sort of a search into the contents of those URLs useful.

My question is are there any existing tools or suggestions to build some scripts to achieve this whereby I can do a search only on my private URL collection? I wouldn't like to store the contents on my local machine, but maybe some sort of an indexing can be used?

Couldn't get much in a simple DDG search so asking here.

<![CDATA[Ask HN: What web hosting do you use for your personal sites/blogs?]]>Just looking for a simple host, with really great performance. As the title implies, it's for a simple static site/blog (likely using Jekyll).

I'm sceptical of the much hyped Media Temple offering, and definitely don't want to hand over cash to GoDaddy.

<![CDATA[Ask HN: Are personal sites/portfolios important and how should you build one?]]>I'm an incoming senior in college studying CS and Finance and one of my colleagues in the Valley mentioned that having a personal site with a portfolio makes candidates look exponentially more impressive when applying for jobs (e.g. organized code samples with explanations and context).

How important is it to have your own website or portfolio? Does having a blog component add significant value or is a collection of static pages sufficient?

Also, when creating a site is it acceptable to use a CMS like WordPress or do employers prefer if individuals build their sites from the ground up or use different web frameworks?
