Some tools are good even though they have a high barrier to entry.
That people use resources to help them use tools they don't understand too well is hardly new. e.g. Classically you might copy-paste from StackOverflow after finding an error, or some people watch YouTube videos about it.
I'd say LLMs make it easier to get to the point where you can understand it, though. So it's an accessibility increase.
> It remains so, only now you want people to blindly trust LLM output for this system.
This isn't related to Nix, though. You could ask an LLM to create the most mainstream Python code ever and blindly trusting it would make as much sense.
For system management, Nix has the advantage of being declarative. e.g. For NixOS you get to read the code and review what it's doing.

What I like to call at work "this is not a technical problem". There are many problems we could easily solve if we had the right structural incentives. But instead we have politics, processes, layers of management, etc. All that doesn't disappear (yet?) with AI.

LineageOS definitely doesn't have most of the privacy and security of GrapheneOS. It lags significantly behind the standard Android Open Source Project (AOSP) updates which means not having all the standard patches and protections. Many of the patches aren't backported to older releases. It also doesn't use all the standard security features. LineageOS doesn't reduce privacy and security nearly as much as many of the operating systems based on it, but it's not as good as a production build of current AOSP on an up-to-date device. GrapheneOS makes massive improvements to the privacy and security of AOSP including providing many important protections missing in AOSP such as Contact Scopes, Storage Scopes and secure paste. It also fixes many privacy and security vulnerabilities not yet addressed in AOSP. They're not at all in the same space for privacy and security.

I have a similar issue. I see cloudflare checkboxes all the time. Google makes me fill out captchas all the time. Sometimes it decides I can’t search, sometimes cloudflare doesnt let me past the checkbox.
I’ve checked my network. I’ve monitored egress traffic. There is no residential proxy. I’m not on a VPN. If anything, services should be able to track me entirely by my home IP doesn’t change that often.
My best guess is that I’ve committed the crime of not allowing third party cookies? Or maybe the crime of not being logged into a Google account 24/7.

For the price of less than one CD a month, I can have access to more music that I want to listen to. And I don't have to lug around all that music on three different devices.
That's not outsourcing curation. That's basically cloud storage + file sharing.

How is the EURO going for European members like France or Spain ?
Some businesses not people are winning, the vast majority are stuck on a train that is speeding towards a crash. Nobody is winning in this new world of consolidation, the average person always loses. The gains of peace and prosperity after WW2 are all being erased. I dont think the Spanish people who cant afford to live in their own home cities do not appreciate the mass tourism economy. Then again with or without these modern economies, the result is always things get worse.

oatmeal1 is right. The largest components of most people's budgets are housing and transportation. Restricting new construction constricts new supply which results in rent/mortgage payments being higher than they need to be. Zoning which makes driving easy and anything else very hard makes buying and maintaining an automobile a de facto necessity. It also exposes you to energy shocks due to whatever crazy war is happening on the side of the world.

Having some low or middle manager PIPing and fire people based on BS personalities and whims type stuff is rarely the "leadership agenda" though. The company sees trained employees like any other asset. They don't want your manager being hard on equipment for no good reason.
That said, it drives me up the wall that it seems like all the bad managers are exactly like the one you're experienced.

> Psychologically they'll believe they earned that 20% raise through hard work.
Well, it's not just that. They've been telling us for decades that wages are alternatively a direct reflection of the value of our labor to the company, or, a price set by the market, depending on which is cheaper for the corporations.
Kind of like when people say that UBI would simply instantly raise the price of all rent to match. Oh, really? The supply of rentable units will suddenly have decreased? The demand will suddenly have gone up? No? Odd that the "market set price" responded then.

And if the bank implements the best form of Passkey (and implements it well) in this case it would require the user to biometrically authenticate before sending money (perhaps based on dollar amount or transaction volume) to a new account. The user would hopefully learn over time that the biometric requirement is aligned with money transfers and would grow suspicious if they were prompted for it during a scam session.
