Newer NVidia cards (H100 and up) support both in-memory model encryption and ‘trusted’ execution environment/remote attestation, not sure how widely used in frontier model deployments, but at least vendor claimed perf overhead is ‘3%’ [0]

I assume they’re encrypted/DRM’ed when deployed on inference hardware, so only core researchers/sec admins would potentially have some access to unprotected weights, and they are far too well paid to risk it leaking the model

There are also lots of cheaper SoMs if you're not allergic to Chinese chipsets, and the cheaper ones tend to have PoP on-package DDR so you can spin your own 4-layer PCB without having to pull your hair out impedance matching DDR3+ traces. That, of course, if you can fit into ~64MB RAM.

NXP/i.MX are way better at mainline kernel than Broadcom that RPi is based on, come on.. and they have cheaper options like i.MX 9 series. Other vendors, yes, mainline support could be pretty spotty.

The other side of it is forced obsolescence where new OS makes your existing hardware slower. So I wouldn't upgrade my phone beyond iOS18.x purely for performance reasons but if there's a killer feature in a new iPhone I would still consider buying it because its hardware was built to handle the new effects and extra ram it needs.

The author didn't go far enough, should have ripped out the battery holder, installed a single lifepo4 or lipo, added a USB-C charging/protection board and a low quiescent current LDO to simulate 2.7V a couple of freshly charged nimh's puts out.

That's not it, though. This is available on the consumer L1 band, and you can even read that info using a $5 Ublox receiver (UBX-RXM-SFRBX command).

Okay i'm officially a dumbass - looking at the pinout i can clearly see Arduino pins and normal GPIO pins are mixed up on the board I used (seeed xiao rp2040). Arduino strikes again!

Just checked - of course if works fine on proper pins

'Connect under reset' is an STM32 thing, nrf52840 can't really do that and the probe doesn't use hardware reset pin. Once the MCU is out of pin reset, Ctrl-AP can hold the mcu in soft reset, but that's the standard behavior.

The difference between Pico and Pi Debug Probe are those 100Ω resistors on CLK/DIO lines, so I guess it working for you means I need to try again with resistors soldered.

I tried to use picoprobe to debug an nrf52 chip, it failed to even detect it.. All that’s officially supported is using it to debug a raspberry pi, and maybe if I added 100Ohm resistors to the lines I would have had better luck, but.. alas

I have one running Klipper on a modded Ender3.. but I agree with the sentiment.

They also make OK Kodi/Libreelec boxes due to better documented video decode silicon (Intel still better at that).
