Actually you're not just behind, you've burned up money.. you've destroyed value - there's an opportunity cost of that money. Whilst the other competitor who is prudent eventually wins will be far more attractive in the eyes of investors - moreover once you are confident you can scale up inputs (engineers) and hone in the quality whilst the other competitor runs ragged with a half-baked product.

We've seen this story play out already numerous times: Apple. They made a mis-step with Apple Intelligence but aside from that, they've been right not to lurch to deep into things they shouldnt. Its not zero-sum.

Can you posters really be taken seriously?

Capitalism is effectively over when you have AGI - that's when the US sends in the army and seizes everything. At that point what money you have, the law - it gets ripped up - its litereally irrelevant. You cannot be this naive, surely?

Nobody is buying this stuff.

Back 15 yrs ago when information didn't quite makes it way through to even the moderately dumbest person - you could have. Not anymore. These fellas really believed so hard in their scaling thesis and forget that they need to manage the time-horizon and the probabilities along the way.

erm since when was normal profit considered enough?

Normal profit is what an investor demands at the absolute bare minimum. They dont 'feel' better off if its not being beaten.

Its the content not the process that matters - Steve Jobs.

I actually find it amazing all this money has been spent and all the same lessons will come back to haunt firms.

Whats wrong with humanity? Same mistakes made over and over again.

I get that the generating higher profits is alluring but damn, have some discipline!

Me being selfish.. I don't mind this.

I want every other firm to get weak whilst mines stays strong and wipe them out clean.
