I have never disagreed with an opinion on VR more. The worst VR experiences are the ones that would be possible without the VR. I thought half life Alyx was bad because of this. I don’t want to treat my headset as just another screen.

This is dumb. We measure productivity because that’s what the people with the power to choose the important metrics care about. There’s no “we” that gets to choose anything! They don’t care about your wellbeing and would happily make you eat bugs if it meant their favourite numbers would go in the right direction.

Small book stores are one of the least deserving businesses I can think of. They are no different from drop shippers or amazon resellers. These people buy things they had no responsibility creating and sell it to you for a higher price, injecting themselves as middle men to a transaction where it’s not required and then justifying it with a hobby job they made up themselves. The author gets nothing if the book is used so there’s no reason not to pirate. Cheapest is a great metric when you’re dealing with books.

That’s not true at all.. Almost nobody with a house in Canada has the income to buy it at current prices. The only way most people can do it is because they bought a long time ago or got an inheritance from somebody who bought a long time ago

Canada has an immigration rate 10x the rate of the US but any discussion of lowering this is considered racist. I have a top 5% income but I will never own a house in my life and can’t access a family doctor. We have way too many people! The population is expected to be 50% foreign born or children of immigrants by 2040 and it’s already majority foreign born in our biggest cities.

I honestly don’t expect this country to stay together for more than a few more decades. What is a Canadian? The “melting pot” theory of integration is also considered racist here because Canada is a “mosaic” where everyone has the right to keep their old culture and live in an ethnic enclave with no expectation of assimilation.

Bill Gates in his climate book: “geoengineering is the only known way that we could hope to lower the earth’s temperature within years or even decades without crippling the economy.”

Pretty soon we’re going to start seeing authoritarian solutions to climate change. Rich and powerful people aren’t just going to sit around and watch the planet die. I think they’ll do whatever it takes no matter how many people are hurt.

In Canada we don’t feed kids at school. If a kid doesn’t bring lunch, it’s their parents fault. If that happens frequently it’s considered child abuse. Lots of elementary schools here (mine) don’t even have a cafeteria!

I was surprised when I found out that we’re one of the few developed countries that doesnt have any kind of lunch program. I feel like our system works fine though and since I’ve seen the garbage that American children are fed I think it’s actually better this way

A “startup” in Canada is just a dozen guys who stay afloat by chasing $50k government grants full time. It’s very good when these go out of business
