There are so many things this study assumes that you cant possibly think its remotely accurate. These estimates rely on mathematical modeling to estimate this which we should know from covid that these models are often flawed. This specific study referenced from the link you provided is estimating a projection of a 15% increase in all cause mortality by 2030. Dividing total funding by "average per-child treatment cost" to estimate death ignores the fact that not all aid reaches its target. In fact as we've seen with other "aid" programs (cough cough Ukraine) much of that money is disappears due to fraud and corruption. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to look at the countries this aid was going to and know that they are rampant with corruption.
Secondly, what is missed is that while USAID was shut down, many of the programs were moved to the US State Department with a blanket waiver for all life saving humanitarian aid.https://www.state.gov/emergency-humanitarian-waiver-to-forei...
> The Lancet study claims USAID programs saved more than 90 million lives during this period. In other words, USAID was allegedly responsible for the entire global improvement in mortality, plus another 11 million lives.
https://reason.com/2025/07/24/did-usaid-really-save-90-milli...
https://depts.washington.edu/globalhealthjustice/what-is-the...

I'm curious in this instance how the system was activated. According to literature "activation happens manually via a dedicated button (cockpit/cabin) or automatically if the system detects pilot incapacitation (no inputs, emergency descent after depressurization, or Level Mode active too long)"
In this scenario I wonder which it was.

I’m no trump supporter but where were these articles and comments by Powell during the Biden presidency when the BLS was constantly revising job numbers downward after the fact? In 2024 they revised numbers over 800,000 jobs downward (coincidentally, also comes out to a bit over 60k jobs a month) The reason for that is that BLS issues “preliminary” job numbers that they then later updated as more information becomes available. Isn’t that possible, and some may argue likely, the same thing happening here?

I feel this is the perfect mix. Aside from a short stint at a company that didnt believe in allowing employees to work remotely in 2020 (don't ask), I have been fully remote since 2019. I love being remote, love being able to take my son to school and pick him up, etc. I do, however, cherish the two times a year I travel into the corporate office and work in person with my teammates. I wish I had the option to go into the office, not required, just a choice.

I guess I want to know "oceanic" means in this instance. Is that just going out into the ocean a short distance? They mention the "Yangtze River Three Gorges 1" river cruise ship as an example. This thing has a range of like 100km. It seems we are far away from making true oceanic crossings of any long distance and I doubt that is coming by 2028.

the corporate hi-tech "extravaganza" has only come recently with its rise in US popularity. While you are not wrong I think thats just one part of the sport. Indycar is just racing and strategy. F1 is technical development, racing, strategy, and team performance. I like both but while I find the racing better in Indy, I follow F1 much more closely because I really enjoy the technical side of the sport. I also think 10 teams (soon to be 11) and 20 drivers (soon to be 22) that race in every race makes it easier to stay invested throughout the season.

Its moves like these that make me bet on Tesla. They are miles ahead of legacy auto when it comes to technology and I'm not even referring to any of the self driving stuff (which is also miles ahead of anything else). I feel more and more vehicles are moving from complex mechanical machines with crap software slapped on top to computers on wheels. Back to the Tesla example, the entire car is designed around the software and the hardware that software runs on. We live in a world now where most car buyers grew up with smartphones and everything IoT under the sun and in another 20-30 years every car buyer will have grown up in that world. The younger generation expects good tech in their car. If you have a legacy auto, when was the last time you got an update to the infotainment system? I've owned a model y for a year and half now and in that time have had 36 updates averaging an update every 16 days. I can honestly say my car has gotten better since I bought it. New features like adaptive headlights, more streaming music and podcast apps. new UI, etc. A buddy of mine has a 2018 model s and is still getting software updates and new features. What legacy auto car from 7 years ago is still getting software updates?

The real problem is not politicians per se, its lobbyists. If you want blame the shortcomings of the ACA on anyone blame the insurance lobby. We need to get rid of lobbyists and put in term limits. period. It doesnt matter what party you support neither of them are looking out for your best interests. We should vote for people based on their individual beliefs and policies and not have to worry about what they are going to do in office because they get threatened by their party to vote this way or that way and hold the line ebcause if they dont they will primary you. If we have term limites, getting primaried doesnt matter as much anymore. It shouldnt be a career to be in DC. It should be a public service. The sooner we all realize this and quit picking a tribe the sooner things will get better.

Yes, this is how it should have operated from the beginning. MCAS was flawed when the MAX was first put into operation. Personally, I feel that the MCAS system is "airworthy" now. But that is just MCAS...What is more concerning to me is the quality issues that Boeing has for all aspects of their aircraft. To be clear, this is not specific to the MAX, this is any aircraft that Boeing has pushed out their doors in the past 10 years or so. The foundation for Aviation Safety has a an excellent podcast that goes over the numerous quality issues Boeing has that still exist to this day. https://www.foundationforaviationsafety.org
Boeing used to be a great company that prioritized safety over everything else. (If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going) The "merger" with McDonnell Douglas was the end of that version of Boeing. IMHO, the Boeing 777 was the last great airplane Boeing built. That plane would not be made in the Boeing of today because the initial investment was so high.
