People are just paid to not do it. In urban areas, they become political slaves, and in rural areas, it destroys any chance they might have of building a local economy.

And we need to make it easier to build and run something other than single-family dwellings. Boarding houses used to be a common fixture in the US: think a cross between a dorm and a military barracks.

Give the residents decently secured lockers and some private security with actual teeth[1], not to mention some counseling, and the folks that land here might actually stand a chance at rebuilding their lives.

Every media organization sacrificed their credibility wholesale over the past five years.

The federal government accomplished the same for themselves over 2020.

Americans now live in a world where the institutions underpinning public life have lost all of their credibility with the public itself, outside of Blue enclaves.

We don't know where this goes. We really don't. Historically, nowhere good.

- Nazis conducted horrific medical experiments on Jewish prisoners (who were mostly German citizens as well!). In fact, pretty much everything we know about hypothermia came from the Nazis freezing and attempting to revive prisoners.

- Nazis often used promises of medical treatment to ensure compliance. The famous "showers" were one such example. Prisoners were then sent into a room -- complete with showerheads, soap, and even puddles! -- to be gassed.

- Nazi propagandists created documentaries showing Jewish, Romani, and other "undesirable" communities as "disease-ridden". It is easier to convince normal people to betray "undesirables" when "normal people" believe they are protecting both their own health, as well as the health of their communities.

I have applied for visa in multiple countries, attended public schools as well as university, and even had employment contracts specifying current vaccination.

I have never had to actually present any of that information. I'm not even sure how I could find it.

Police were ordered to take a knee to the mob.

We were told that this was justice.

But the second those powerful people were even slightly threatened, the gloves came off.

Only one person was murdered on the 6th. A veteran and Trump voter named Ashli Babbitt, killed by the police. And Democrats celebrated her death.

Until we can do that, we aren't really adults. That's what sets adults and children apart: responsibility. Children are not responsible for their own lives; rather, they live under the guardianship of adults.

Adults are responsible.

And it is a hate crime that we have probably two generations in the West that have been raised to be actively irresponsible: to reject the mantle of responsibility, and instead spend their time loudly blaming... everybody but themselves.

It doesn't matter how well-deserved that blame might be! Blame itself is toxic.

Look, I get it. My parents did a number on me, too. But I also recognize that they too were broken in many ways, and that they did the best they could with what they had.

Yes, that means they gave me a lot of shitty advice. But it was good advice to their younger selves.

That's why I'm not angry with them anymore. Not for the cheating, or the divorce, or any of the rest. Because I am adult enough to take ownership over my own life.

As do many of their employees.

You don’t even need to make encryption illegal. You just need to backdoor it. Trivial for one or two well-placed developers.

Imagine that we had the most thoroughly crafted law imaginable to prevent private messages from being blocked or modified.

You still have to take those companies to court, which cost a ton of money, fight them over years, and even if you win, then what?

The only workable strategies I see at this point are to fight to preserve individual choice, and the ability to connect point-to-point.
