Not OP but I happily throw money at companies that help Linux adoption and more open hardware grow. I bought the steam deck, used it for a while and gave it to a nephew (I'm not big on mobile gaming), I've bougt the Pinebook, Librem 5, and will happily throw Valve more of my hard earned cash for enabling a more open ecosystem. We need to vote with our wallets or Microsoft, Apple, Meta, et al will gladly remove your ability to own your hardware.

it's good. think of it like adding a different kind of lock that requires a different key (method) to open up first. at worst it's no less secure than before. If it works as intended it's a huge disincentive for anyone collecting encrypted data with the hopes that a quantum computer may break encryption the "old" method in the future.

on mobile so can't provide source but look up why privacy badger no longer uses a dynamic "learned" list of trackers to block, the way you mention safari works and instead uses a list that everyone else uses. it basically reduces privacy because your list of blocked sites is likely to be unique among other users (along with other data points) and unintuitively makes it easier to track you across the web.

im gonna disagree with this take. I've seen thousands of MacBooks come and go from early 2016 all the way through current models and screen burn in is just not something I've ever seen. hardware/firmware bugs, bloated batteries, keyboard keys rubbed onto the screen, etc sure, but display defects from normal usage? not once.

I prefer Google's method of open sourcing their work. it benefits humanity in the long term, where Apples software generally benefits Apple and is only allowed to run on their "blessed" hardware.
Thanks to Google we have patent-free codecs, an open source mobile OS, and they contribute significantly to the Linux kernel, among other projects that are "available to the public".
