I agree. Many things we benefit from are free or significantly reduced in price due to the profitability of advertising. I would not want to live in a world where I'd have to find everything through word of mouth and not get to try free versions of services.

The reason why I dislike it is that, compared to 3rd party apps, it's slow and the design is overly busy. I prefer a more minimalistic design. The excessive tracking doesn't help.

This is very interesting, but this doesn't seem like a good thing to me. We don't need to be productive all the time. As he mentions, he had little time to introspect; I much prefer having downtime where I can stop and think for a while or run into something new and interesting within highly curated social media. If this truly made him happy, then good for him, but I would put more effort into being comfortable with being "unproductive" as long as my needs are being sufficiently met.

Seeking financial independence is more about having the freedom to choose whether to keep working or not. Many pursue the FI over the RE and find great joy and meaning in their work. If you'd be in deep trouble if you suddenly lost your job because you're not financially independent, then yes I think you're a slave to your job. People in FIRE communities constantly say to build the life you want to live and then save for it. Not enjoying the journey is a FIRE failure.

Not global, but I landed a high paying remote job without a LC-style interview. However, I did spend a lot of time studying data structures & algorithms for such an interview, and in this interview I was tasked with looking at existing code and explaining it. It happened to use an algorithm I had learned in my studying for LC, so it made things much easier to explain. Additionally, just the other day, I ended up using something on the job that I had learned in my LC studies in order to efficiently find duplicate items. It's simple, but I wouldn't have known to do this if I hadn't studied for it. I find it's been very well-worth my time. While preparing to get a job, I still put more hours into side projects.
Also, I don't really get what you mean by saying you don't want to practice because you know you'll be anxious. The whole point of practicing is to get rid of that anxiety. Companies like to see how well you can perform under pressure, and how well you can communicate through that. The LC is a small part of the interview in my opinion.

I used https://neocities.org/ recently to make a simple static html website with no issues and no configuration. And I'm someone who usually uses the more "advanced" stuff. It's nice having the freedom to chase a little nostalgia sometimes.
