However, busses do tremendously greater wear and damage to roads than cars, and if everyone used busses exclusively the cost of road maintenance and repair would likely go up.
I'd also argue we'd need the same amount of roads, but those roads (mostly highways) could be smaller/fewer lanes.

I don't see any evidence that Elon's brain is "going" and in fact he's literally more successful than ever - and more than almost anyone in history. Which isn't me trying to kiss his ass but rather just a statement of facts that anyone can see by looking at the net worth scoreboard. If we saw any evidence of senility or brain rot or whatever people want to accuse him of, then sure, maybe there can be room for "maybe Elon is starting to make truly idiotic business decisions".
I do agree wealth does cause brain rot and even the people trying to be most self-aware about it still fall victim to their bubbles and egos. I think Elon shows this plenty is many aspects of his life, but business is not one of them.

My argument isn't that I have insider information or even any meaningful knowledge or experience with literally billion dollar acquisitions and investments. My argument is that you don't either, and almost no one does, and Elon doesn't really have a track record of making decisions that have no explanation behind them - even if that basis is sometimes ideological rather than profit maximizing (buying twitter).
Elon is problematic in many ways and despite the cool things his companies do, I think he is also causing harm. However, he is not an idiot, he is very business savvy, he does things for real reasons, and if you're going to speculate that he's being an idiot and making a stupid decision, then I think it needs an argument of substance that actually understands the factors at play in spending billions of dollars on buying a company. Which I don't think either of us are equipped to provide.
Saying "this doesn't make sense" is basically an admission that it isn't understood, rather than evidence that Elon is being an idiot.

i've had the same thought for 20 years and unfortunately it's less likely than ever to happen now, given how many sites require javascript and have cloudflare pages before even loading a site (I get several a day).
thankfully i think traditional web surfing is probably going to die out in the next 10 years, and progressively decline a lot much sooner than that as people start to interact with AI rather than browsers (or any software for that matter).
my feed of hackernews is going to be my AI agent giving it to me in plain text very soon, and soon after that i will probably never visit the internet again because it will be impossible to know what's real and fake
as a millennial it will be interesting to experience the full cycle of being born when nothing was online, to everything being online, to then again being entirely offline by the time i'm older

I feel like this idea comes up often and in my opinion it doesn't solve anything. Take a picture of an AI image and you've made this approach useless. Which then goes to the argument of "well you'll see it's a picture of a picture" to which I will say there are plenty of ways to make this not appear so, and the ultimate form of this argument is that you can eventually project light directly into the photosensors, or otherwise hack the input between the photosensors and the rest of whatever digital magic that turns light into a JPG on your phone.

WhatsApp bothers me incessantly about backing up my messages, and from a quick search online it seems like these backups are not E2E encrypted unless you go into settings and explicitly make them so, which I doubt most people do. And if they are encrypted, I would have a lot of questions about how secure those keys are and where they're stored and if they're using password managers from other tech companies, which of those companies have had NSLs requiring them to backdoor said password managers

Gambling is a state regulation and Trump has absolutely nothing to do with it other than indirectly through supreme court appointments, but even the 2018 ruling that gave more power to states included votes by two democrat appointed justices - so if you're going to blame trump you also need to blame clinton and obama

Someone recreating this and allowing access to it sort of in the style of an escape room business would be pretty cool - motion flight sim where you can learn to fly the plane or learn to operate the other parts of engineer/bombing/navigation etc. And maybe not simulating the problematic "let's bomb human targets" but rather just bullseyes in fields.

I'm a lifetime EFF member and have given them money multiple times, but this article is also clearly missing:
1. Are they spending less to get content promoted?
2. Are they posting links outside of twitter back to twitter less often?
3. Are they linking links to twitter in all their site traffic like they used to?
4. Is their site traffic in general the same as it used to be?
There is no analysis - just flat contextless numbers clearly designed to make it sound like "X is dying, we're taking our ball and going home" in a sour grapes sort of way.
disclaimer: anti elon, very pro-LGTB+, pro-EFF aside from weird political snipes
