Just a few more things that didn't make it into the post:

Stack: Next.js frontend, hosted on Vercel. Course curriculum generation and diagnostics done via LLM calls - I'm not planning to open source the prompt/architecture right now, but happy to dive deeper on specific aspects if people are interested.

Why I built it: I realized that the real failure point for most forms of self-taught learning isn't lack of content - it's that consumption of the content feels like learning even when you're not retaining anything. You watched this lecture or this video? You got it. I wanted something that wasn't complete until you'd proven it.

Limitations of what I've built so far, just to be clear:

AI Viva (voice defense) isn't out yet - it's the next big feature I plan to work on The curriculum graph generator works well enough for structured domains (CS, math, econ), but isn't great for qualitative subjects yet No mobile app, only web version right now

Pricing: Free at the moment, no paid tier yet. No idea how I'm going to monetize it yet either.

Privacy and Security: Supabase with row level security such that users will only ever be able to access their data via the DB layer, and all access is via tRPC procedures (nothing client side), and there's rate limiting in place on the API as well. Once the voice version of Viva comes out, I'll write up details on how voice data is stored.

I would truly appreciate any and all criticism, particularly from anyone who has attempted something like this "prove it" system in the past (the Recurse center, viva based grading systems, etc.).

The idea for Socratix was formed from constant "completion" of online courses and videos without the ability to actually use the material. How it works: give it a learning objective, and it creates an personalized curriculum in the form of a DAG of prerequisite concepts rather than a list of videos. Each concept comes with theory and interactive practice (with actual code running in browser for technical subjects), and instead of a pass/fail metric, it analyzes mistakes you make in order to diagnose conceptual problems, not simple errors. A concept opens the next one only when it is demonstrated that you know it well enough (practice + diagnostics). Additionally, I'm creating a live voice AI Viva (oral exam style test of knowledge where you will have to justify the answers) that is not live yet, but is coming. It covers various domains, not just programming (mathematics, economics, sciences, etc.) Will appreciate any feedback, especially on curriculum generation part and if the loop of practice/diagnostics feels different from regular quizzes.

Reviewed this and it is quite impressive. The map adds much more reality to the data as opposed to regular climate maps. The one feature that I think would be awesome to add would be an interactivity layer to the bottom-right panel indicating the extinction years where you can click or hover over the warming period to view the affected glaciers on the map and their numbers.

What is amazing is the amount of consideration given to an issue which would escape the majority of users. It is surprising how complex an apparently easy process turns out when considering certain special cases.

The same thing happened when we tried to set up my brother’s car rental business on Google Maps. We gave them the website, the domain, the business number, and even the business address, but somehow, it managed to show an already-defunct business from somewhere else. Even after we complained, it didn’t fix the problem.
