Not only does the article mention that

Your own statista link shows that the number of bankruptcies was steadily decreasing between 2010-2019, now it's going up again.

Your solution is even worse! Not only it means opening stores everywhere, but you haven't even considered the fact that not everyone wants to go shopping daily. Buying in bulk is a thing, bc of time and money saved. They are holding the Israeli gov't responsibile for the violence that is to come in Gaza in the next days (already started). Your argument that surrender is what makes societies function is absolutely wrong, otherwise it would be applicable in places like Ukraine.

I was just thinking - why don't they make electrified coin-operated shopping carts that you can take home and return when you're done with them? That would greatly extend the carrying capacity of a single person and maybe make car trips redundant.

A sewage system doesn't work well without periodic flushes. Having too few houses connected to it means it is at risk of drying and clogging. Most probably when it was designed they took into account the number of houses is was supposed to collect waste water from. Anything less then that number would be risky for the whole system.
