I'm in my 30s and have eaten many pounds of psilocybe cubensis mushrooms. Over the course of numerous years and not every weekend or all that frequently and it's been many years since I've eaten them by this point. I've also infrequently and over years had pure LSD direct from the chemist. I've never experienced any problems, I've never been unemployed, married 14 years with children in my only marriage, and maintain a 6 figure salary. I won't go on about spiritual life changes and other nonsense but there are plenty of highly functioning folks out there who can responsibly use psychedelics from time to time and continually improve their lives.

Guy takes a mystery drug at a high first time dose without tapering up. Did he Ehrlich reagent test it first? Likely not, because it sounds like he took 25I-NBOMe. Monumentally stupid. Then writes a hit piece blog about it and blames Steve Jobs and anyone else but himself? Next time, don't pop mystery blotters or there may not be a next time. N-Bomb is sold constantly as fake LSD, and truthfully there is very little pure LSD being synthed. Monumentally stupid, you could have ended up taking something like N-2C-Fentanyl.

The dose and the purity is what makes all the difference here. When someone takes Adderall orally, they are taking racemic amphetamine and dextroamphetamine at a dose typically around 10-20mg per day. When someone smokes pure d-methamphetamine, they are typically smoking 50-70mg in one or two large hits. Now, I do not condone or suggest this, but imagine taking 50-60mg of instant Adderall in the morning.

Most everything on the internet is a falsehood prepped up and bolstered for clout. Even much of the stuff you see here bragging about starting a SaaS or whatever, for clicks and likes. Instagram pictures are faked. The happiness, is faked. Much of the conversation on Twitter is astroturfed and botted to such an extent to farm likes and narratives. What's disturbing is all the fake is spilling right out into real life nowadays. Influencers walking around filming everywhere and fully believing they're celebrities in their own right, and with a matching entirely different off camera/off public view personality to boot.
We have William Gibson novels nearly coming to life a few decades later. Celebrity and influencer obsession and the itch and the need for that dopamine hit to go viral. It's a disease.

The linked reported "massive overdose from the 70's case" is also fairly bogus, in my opinion. Look deeper in the report and see the serum levels quoted and one of the highest of one of 7 patients recorded was 26ng/ml? That's effectively like taking 6-7 hits of LSD at approximate dosage of 200 microgram per dose. So what's "massive," and what does that mean then, if that person was comatose off only 6 medium sized doses of LSD, right? That is not anywhere near hundreds of doses.

That case report notes a 10x dose, a 5x dose (these are pretty standard), and a very loose description of snorting 55mg of powdered LSD, which I don't buy. I've seen enough folks eat a sheet or down a 10k mic vial and trip for a week+ to know better. Possibly the dose report was well off, or snorting it and fortunately they didn't get much of it or it wasn't pure LSD-25.

Tolerance is not acceptance. To tolerate, is to allow something that you do not like. While tolerance is needed, what's really needed is truth and acceptance. I'd rather have someone tell me they don't like me and what for than to be merely tolerated while simultaneously treated like a second rate citizen or talked down upon by simply being just "tolerated." Anyway, I know it's a bit tangent-like here, but tolerance is really not acceptance but to allow something begrudgingly, and so it shouldn't be used as the positive side to intolerance. Not directly replying to you but the entire chain.
Otherwise on topic, I see and feel the chilling effects on speech from those big platforms being discussed across America as well. I do not see any of it coming from the US government, though. I see it all coming from citizens wishing to control others' speech all around them, else they will whip out a phone and think they're some sort of vigilante over others' speech or wrongthink. This is tiresome and old already but I'm not comparing this to government level, authoritarian free speech removal. Still, it's having a mass effect on societal attitude, conversation, politeness, and all else, as far as I can tell.

There are virtually no good games on Apple Arcade. Had it for a year, nothing but goofy cell-shaded 6 year old child's games with maybe three or four titles like Jetpack Joyride or Crossy Road to piggy back off. I can't imagine how an adult can enjoy what's in the Apple Arcade and I really gave it the benefit of the doubt.

My company did just what you say, and cut a few hundred engineers and managers across the board without warning. 8AM on a Monday morning a bunch of us just got pulled into a MS Teams meeting with a Sr. Director and immediately told "We're sorry to inform you that your job position has been eliminated." Thought I'd done something wrong as there was no warning whatsoever but reached out to a security engineer in the company working in a different state and immediately found out he'd been cut, too. After a couple days started getting texts from folks that a few hundred got cut. Then they do the cutesy offer of "But you can always apply for another of our open and available positions." Sorry, no thanks.

Exactly! If Walmart/McD's wish to successfully use Bitcoin, they will easily batch millions of transactions from numerous locations into just a handful of on chain network transactions. The point is finality in Bitcoin for those who wish to hold hard money at the end of it rather than a credit system or fiat currency.
I see a lot of clearly incorrect information being displayed here about l2 such as Lightning Network, and at odds with reality. I'm not addressing the posts but it seems lately HN comments have nearly become a pile-on of misinformation bike-shedding about Bitcoin and in the face of reality, these folks want to spread outright lies and falsities. You may not own Bitcoin and you may not like it, but it's going far when hundreds of comments are so boldly misleading. For folks who are into science and technology, and some who are hackers, the ethos doesn't check out spreading misinformation about energy usage, centralization, and fairness of the system. When I was growing up, hacking was all about freedom to explore, libertarian bent, and/or anarchy.
The cypherpunk movement from which Bitcoin sprang was very libertarian or even one could say classical liberal. This article attempts numerous times to, for some reason, compare libertarianism to communism which is quite absurd. Libertarianism is for as little system of government as necessary, for staunch individual liberty and property rights, and hands-off free market economies. Clearly, communism is for state controlled property and no individual rights, one-world state, and no individual rights at all. Communism seeks to replace free-market economies with everyone equal and no individual rights. It's absurd on it's face to even compare libertarianism to communism when they're at opposite poles. At any rate, I would hope people don't take all these fear-mongering anti-crypto articles just at face value and do some research into what crap they're reading.

What people are entirely missing here is the massive economic indicators flashing that are preempting this crypto stuff. The US dollar is about to be devalued and take with it, the entire global economy. We're heading into a serious depression, not just a little 2008 recession here. $9-10 gal of gas by October and double of all goods and food prices likely by Sept-October time frame. The outlook is growing very bleak.

The West (specifically in my experience, the United States) have been buying up everything tech and auto South Korean for pushing over a decade now at this point. Kia and Hyundai automobiles are now running against the Japanese cars here. Samsung and LG electronics are highly popular, as the Japanese versions were a decade or three prior. It's now more Samsung, LG, etc here in the US than it is Sony, for example. Also in agreement with a poster above how the Korean cinema is just now taking off since around 2019. Prior to the movie Parasite, I can't even think of a popular South Korean film taking root here but most have seen Parasite and quite a few were into Squid Game. This is a relatively new thing.

This is contrary to numerous interviews where Gibson praises aesthetic and for example, says that Blade Runner spot-on nailed what he was going for with Neuromancer. Gibson all throughout Neuromancer equally himself focuses, almost hyper-focuses on surface textures and visual aesthetic to juxtapose antique forms and purpose with high tech modern materials. It would seemingly be at odds for him to not like aesthetic and neon and city "Sprawl" after going to lengths to directly praise Ridley-Scott's "spot-on" interpretations.
