It’s not like this issue had been solved like… what… 15 freaking years ago in China.
The fact that this is shown as a « big step forward » is a a great example of how much the EU is lagging behind. It’s honestly quite sad.
Anyway, let’s wait and see, I already used Wero, it works OK, I don’t really get what the difference is between this and instant bank transfers but again, let’s wait and see.

I tried Datastar and it was great, then I saw this kind of move and it turned me down immediately.
I don't believe it is the right way to play. A Pro support would have been better.
Plus the fact that the licensing prevent to use the Datastar Pro in any kind of open-source project. Very strange move.

Holy shit (hits the fan).
For sure CrowdStrike will be held accountable in several countries, but I believe that some conclusions need to be drawn also from a customer/user perspective.
- Is it reasonable to grant such privilege access to a piece of software that ultimately is a black box ?
- Is it reasonable to put a Microsoft / Commercial / Closed source OS in critical infrastructure ? If not considered as critical, then “important” infrastructure ?
- Is it reasonable to have more than 70% of the computers/servers that run important infrastructure on the same OS / software ? How about the mitigation of the risks etc…
I sincerely hope that all of this CrowdStrike mayhem will push stakeholders to draw some conclusions and actions.

It's not a question of fragile, it's a question of constantly bypassing the security that is supposed to be in place.
I can perfectly understand that my company refuses me to install an app on my laptop because it may cause security concerns (it my case, it was Tencent's WeChat app).
What I don't understand is why I can't install my apps (which are very "normal" third party applications) on my company laptop, while at the same time there's apparently no issue to grant insane privileges to a third party application that allows god knows who to push updates without any check and literally brick workstations.
Regardless of anti-virus, threat detection, online games anti-cheat or whatever, no third party applications should be able to push updates over the air without the user being warned and consenting. period.
Another thing that also need to be highlighted is why everyone runs Windows ? We have all seen the pictures of the displays in the subways stations or the advertisement displays, screens showing the gates numbers at the airports etc... Does this kind of tool really requires a paid MS license to fulfill its purpose ? I mean, why MS Windows is necessary to display the number of a boarding gate & flight information in an airport ? Why not using a Raspberry Pi or something ? And most importantly, why a display showing the gate number in an airport has to be connected to the Internet ?

If it is mainly for web-browsing, then Linux Mint, with only a web-browser (uBlock extension), and an Office suite.
How can you go wrong with that ?
It depends on the usage of course. If there's a need to manage pictures from the phone, some music etc... then Mac OS with non admin account.
Buy a 1 To external hard drive and setup Time Machine, you can't go wrong with that neither.

Bro... serpentza and C-milk did very qualitative videos around 2015 and 2016 if my memory is correct but the content produced over the past years has turned completely sensational and they accentuate on it purposefully (probably due to Youtube's algo. Some of their content remain super good though and the soundtrack of serpentza's videos is very good ). Their content has to be taken with a (big) grain of salt.
I sincerely hope that you'll get the opportunity to experiment with the immigration process in China which is straightforward and hope that people may overcome the initial reluctance to draw some of the lessons from a country that is far away and has a questionable political system.
I am not saying that it is perfect, I am just stating that we have things to learn from it and that I believe it is sad to just overturn anything that comes from countries that are different.
I believe we can end this thread here as it seems that we will definitely not agree, but that's OK. Have a good day and sorry if my behavior appeared as rude to you.

I think it is super cool, and it gives me many ideas.
I have a similar personal project that I am working on, and I was struggling to find the proper API to retrieve the data, managed to get some from the World Bank, build my own charts with Chart.js etc... Stupid of me to just not rely on the existing data from OurWorldInData.org. The World Bank has very specialized data that might be handy if you work in a specific industry tough (like logistics etc.).
I am in the process of reworking on my personal tool and will definitely get inspiration from your work Lars.
Thanks.

It's really a short sighted vision from Mozilla (and others).
No doubt that further regions will just copy/paste/modify the current EU framework and apply it locally, there's already discussions in Japan, South Korea and so on (1).
Saying "We have no plans to maintain two version of the browser just for the EU" is just ignoring what is likely to happen in the future: An extension of this specific EU legislative framework in several parts of the world.
(1) https://cepa.org/article/europes-dma-goes-global/

What is pretentious however is to judge without having experimenting it.
"no lessons can be learned from Chinese bureaucracy about how to deal with immigrants." is quite a bold statement...
But you go ahead, state that the way other countries are doing things are irrelevant because of almighty statistics etc. (in absolute numbers, 0.07% of immigrants in China represents more people than the population of either France or Germany). You are not the first one stating this and it just feeds my narrative of people located in EU countries that are convinced that they have nothing to learn from anything that comes over the Atlantic, the Ural or the Mediterranean Sea, so nothing will ever improve nor be challenged.

I lived in France, in China and now in Germany.
I would say that somehow, France and Germany are quite similar, it's just that one suck more than another on specific areas and vice-versa.
The net salary is somehow higher in Germany but the amount of subsidies you can get from the state is lower also so it's pretty much the same.
I prefer the decentralized aspect of Germany (unlike France where everything is just centralized in Paris and the rest is just Silent Hill) and also the fact that you can just live without a car.
From France I prefer the more liberal views on "What the state consider to be a family" which is light years ahead of Germany. This said, if you are a married couple with children, you'll get more money from the state in Germany I believe. I believe that Germany is more suitable for mid-40's traditional family, younger/wilder that that, it can be quite boring.
But all of this is just child play compared to how easy things are in China in terms of settle down (based on the experience of someone who has a job with a local company).
I am tired of the pretentious western europe politics/administration point of view that immediately ranks everything (including good ideas) coming from Asia/global South as "not transposable to Europe" or just "not as good as our ways".
