Literally doing this now.
I have a basic music player web app that can run decent on the cheapest android phones. It's buggy but has been pretty solid on my 3k$ pc (lmao).
Yesterday it was so sluggish I had to disable every other app on Windows AND restart AND disable my network (bcus who knows wtf windows is doing in the background). It ran fine (normal) after that.
Windows is so unbearable, my Mac and Linux (former ms) laptop from 6+ years ago operate better than this pc it's driving me up a wall.
MS is literally stealing my pc specs, they don't know wtf they're doing

I just gave it a quick search (using the placeholder suggestions) and personally it is too "clicky" and "type-y" for me.
Not hating on the AI aspect, more so on the UX.
I would just rather scroll and search on spotify.
For example, even after searching and seeing the results, at the bottom it says:
"Not quite right? Try adding more specific details like "slower tempo" or "more bass"."
Instead of asking users to go back and add text to the search, you could include "slower tempo" & "more bass" as buttons or checkboxes to make it easier on me and users alike. Less navigation, less keyboard work, faster results.
Not sure if this is production ready as the links to pricing doesn't lead me anywhere...nor the features or artists links...

I feel you,
one thing that has helped me has been to become less of a lurker in forums/social media spaces where they discuss topics on things i ACTUALLY enjoy.
seems obvious yet I've found to be the answer to "doom scrolling". When you doom scroll, you're looking for something to peak your interest but find nothing...
The crazy thing is, you ALREADY know what you like!
Music? Try to Engage with your favorite artists, musicians, fan clubs, album reviews, listening parties (bandcamp.com)....
Space photos? Look to forums, telescope videos, equipment youtube channels, star parties (irl)
Welding? Conspiracy theories? ...whatever interests you I guarantee there is more niche content out there than you could ever possibly scroll. More than you could ever connect with. But you must connect.
(And if you do ever find the end, you can always be the fire starter for newer content!)
But you are correct, times are bleak and possibly getting bleaker.
And that makes the algorithm happy.
That's why connection (as you said) is more important now than ever. So find a place you can connect
(HN is just ONE of the many places I do - random username and everything ;) )

yea they note nothing can be verified visually but one option is to verify the part/mfg #,
“For most of these products, they are sold with part numbers that show an equivalency to a manufacturer’s part number."
Doubt i'd do that, would probably just source from name brands.

I have used ZoneMinder (https://zoneminder.com/, an open source security cam software) previously for an apartment setup using webcams, but i believe it can work with ip cams, etc. and allows you to save to an external hard drive/ssd/etc...
Wifi im not too sure on, you could try a new cell service but they upcharge on hotspotting... so maybe just regular internet provider or satellite (ex, starlink)
As far as solar, that would likely be your biggest issue... specifically robustness. Solar provides constant energy during the daytime with no obstructions (ex. clouds, shade) but at night time til early morning, power output will be zero (or close to it).
You will need either some type of battery storage or power generator to allow you to have power during solar outages. That is a lot more costly, a couple $1000 at least (inverter or microinverters, charge controllers, batteries, installation costs).
The bright side is you wouldn't need very many panels as the setup shouldn't run you more than 2kW per day (high estimate imo)
I'm ballparking that you would need a central computer to run zoneminder (raspberry pi 4/5 or a cheap windows desktop) and the ip cams, wifi router/modem). Those should be able to run on less than 2kWh per day but depends.
6 panels at 350-400W (~200 per, so around $1500 for solar panels but doesn't include install)
I think you could do it all for under 5k (USD), but the internet/wifi most likely will be your biggest fee going forward.

I could see software jobs increasing in total number due to the emergence of machine learning jobs but to generalize and say the demand is as strong as ever is a little disingenuous especially when ever other CEO claims ai will and has already reduced the workforce

Maybe I'm just a bad dev but I'm baffled how they charge $46k for "29 features" and $56k for "43 features"... Straight up guestimations and magic numbers
but then again they also highlight how you don't have to know anything about tech to use them, so I'm sure setting "fixed pricing" for a fixed number of "features" is a great way to snake oil salesman potential customers

Could be anything from network to plain marketing and SEO.
I'm assuming the lack of new users is due more towards the marketing and search engine optimization of the new international site.
If a forum has very little posts to begin with or active users it may scare away new registrations. That could be the problem.
Another (personally) more glaring issue is the major differences in domain names. I would be afraid that they are not associated with one another and may distrust the international site altogether.
I'd recommend putting the English site under a "subdomain", such as:
en.administrator.de
That change should also improve your SEO I'd assume.
Cheers
