Google’s own engineer stated that the file stored in Drive is not the actual chat, but only a JSON pointer that is linked to the server-side conversation through special metadata. When you download and re-upload it, the metadata is lost, so AI Studio cannot recognize it anymore. This proves that the conversation is not inside the JSON file but remains on Google’s servers even if you delete it from Drive or empty the trash. The Studio interface lies when it says “there is no such prompt,” because the prompt continues to exist on the server. This is not my claim — it is written by Google’s engineer.
https://archive.ph/ghAaS
https://discuss.ai.google.dev/t/noyb-has-contacted-me-google...

The prompt is not the JSON! The two are not the same and everyone needs to understand this. The prompt is server‑side, not the JSON file in Drive that I restored with the recovery test. That file is only a pointer required for the prompt to function. What is a prompt? A prompt is an input instruction or question given to an artificial intelligence system, based on which the AI generates a response or content. The more precisely the prompt is formulated, the more relevant and useful the AI’s answer will be. The “delete prompt” button in AI Studio is lying, because it deletes the JSON, not the prompt, when you click it. And when I restore it with the Drive robot and the prompt (the chat) starts working again, that proves that Google never actually deleted the prompt. Because the button claims this: “Move prompt to trash Are you sure? Your prompt will be permanently deleted after 30 days.” This is logically incorrect, as I mentioned, and it can also be considered deceptive. Not only does the prompt come back after restoring the JSON, but the button shamelessly lies to the user, claiming that the prompt is deleted, when only the JSON is placed into the Drive trash!!! Nothing else, only the JSON file goes into the Drive trash. So it’s not the prompt. It’s the JSON! After 30 days the prompt (the chat) disappears from AI Studio only because the Drive trash is automatically emptied, therefore the JSON key for the prompt is removed, and the chat cannot load. Google cannot deny this. They wrote this nonsense on the interface themselves! Google KEEPS the prompts, because it is provably not deleting them. People don’t understand this and they don’t stand with me! This is a shame!!!
The developer and Google are quietly avoiding the issue: they are fully aware of the question, yet they still refuse to respond. All evidence is documented here:

I found that Google AI Studio’s “Delete” button does not delete the server‑side chat.
I tested it by deleting a prompt, deleting the JSON file from Drive, and emptying the Trash. The file was fully gone.
Then I used Google’s official recovery tool.
The JSON came back — and the model instantly continued the conversation with full context.
This is only possible if the server‑side session and conversation were never deleted.
I recorded the entire process in 3 videos:
https://youtu.be/LBQfNbPCxQw
https://youtu.be/m4U6ajKuLRo
https://youtu.be/8Pg-7eNPUWM
I also posted this finding under two official Google videos featuring Guillaume Vernade, so Google is aware of it:

Quote from my post:
https://discuss.ai.google.dev/t/google-illegally-retains-cus...
Google wants you to believe that the prompt HAS BEEN DELETED from the server. When you empty the trash in Drive, the AI Studio interface states that “there is no such prompt”. This text clearly MEANS it was deleted from the server. But in reality, it was NOT deleted from the server, because after the Drive file recovery the prompt loads the exact same way with the same link. The current delete button, which they renamed to cover up their fraud, says: “Move prompt to trash
Are you sure? Your prompt will be permanently deleted after 30 days.”. The prompt goes to the trash, which will be permanently deleted after 30 days. That is what it says, right. But this is a lie, because it is not the prompt that goes to the trash, but the pointer, the json. The prompt is never deleted from the Google servers. Google wanted you to believe that it was deleted from the server, while they DO NOT delete it. Renaming the button only served this purpose. This forum post from 2025 is also evidence against them, where a Google developer also confirmed that the prompt comes back with its own url, and several users described the same thing: https://discuss.ai.google.dev/t/deleted-chats-remain-accessi.... This is the archive of that post on archive ph: https://archive.ph/Kuhcm
Google’s own developer (Lalit_Kumar, 2025) wrote that the chat is actually not the JSON file in Drive, but only metadata. Due to the loss of the metadata, AI Studio “does not recognize” the chat — but this is not a deletion. This proves that the “there is no such prompt” UI text is a lie, because the prompt actually continues to live on Google’s server. This can be found here: https://discuss.ai.google.dev/t/saved-prompt-history-extensi... And its archive.ph save is here: https://archive.ph/ghAaS
Google cannot deny my evidence, see you in court!
