Because you need these apps to do almost anything.
I went to a music festival last weekend, ticket has to be on the ticketmaster app which is android or iOS, the official app for the festival has timings and updates for the event which are very important else you will miss stuff that is announced, even safety warnings.
My train tickets were on the app, I needed it to book the Uber as well.
20% off drinks and food if you use the paypal app. You just can't do things without Android or iOS.
Thousands of people parked in random fields, parked in daylight, need to find car at night = Airtag/ map.
Everything is an app these days. It's a lot harder to do everything without such things. You wouldn't have been able to attend without such a device.

It's insane this update.
I hope they increase the quota and this is just a capacity issue.
But they basically killed it on the pro plan. Very disappointed and upset today, I've burnt through my weekly allowance on a handful of prompts trying to fix a bug that it's made worse. Now I can't use it for 6 days.

Yeah exactly. It’s pretty certain that the AI bubble will burst. A few companies will have a hard time and disappear. For everyone else though, this will just be headlines in the news and AI will continue as it was.

You can do this with train tickets, dinner reservations and hotel bookings though? Only thing you can’t do that with is for flights and that’s due to security checks/passport etc
Most concert tickets are not standing and you used to get paper tickets you could just hand to someone else, why should you not be allowed to do this just because it moved to digital?

I’m feel like the decent AI models are going to become out of reach for normal people soon enough.
Even the $20 subscription is ridiculously limited and they keep adding more and more limits. The $200 a month sub is insane and only going to get worse and yet still limited

I remember reading about this in a book, 'The enigma of reason', basically it was saying that reasoning was exactly that, we decided and then we came up with a reason for what we had decided and usually not the other way around.
This is because, the 'reasoning' part of our brain came from evolution when we started to communicate with others, we needed to explain our behaviour.
Which is fascinating if you think of the implications of that. In the most part we think we are being logical, but in reality we are pattern matching/impulsive and using our reasoning/logic to come up for excuses for why we have chosen what we had already decided.
It explains a lot about the world and why it's so hard to reason with someone, we are assuming the decision came from reason in the first place, which when you look at such peoples choices, makes sense as it's clear it didn't.

This is great to hear.
I am 43. I used to code as a kid and I've dabbled in it here and there, but I quickly realised I didn't want to code as a career, but now with these new tools I am building again and it's great, because I'm building the things that work for me.
To manage my life there was a todo app I used, now I've built my own, don't need to pay for it and it works exactly as I want it and now I also have a few ideas for other things I Want to do.
It's great, it feels like we might be able to start taking control of our tech back again now, when we can build the tools ourselves that work the way we want, we don't have to worry about the nonsense companies are sticking into there products, we can make things work exactly as we want it.

It seems like you are in some kinda bubble were you are getting feed doom and gloom, most of what you have said is just normal stuff and cycles the world goes through, the difference is you are connected to it more now.
What if you weren't connected to this? what if you didn't know? Ukraine/Iran/whereever, sucks for those people but if your always connected to everything, there is always something bad going on in the world, so you will always see it and it's too much to bare. Some people argue this is just sticking your head in the sand, but what is it that you can personally do? if you want to take up some form of activism in this area, go ahead, but if you aren't, then it should be ignored.
You only have a certain amount of **s to give, choose widely.
And focus on what is local to you, In the scale of the universe who cares about you? in the scale of the planet who cares about you? In the scale of your country who cares about you? in the scale of your city? Your street even, who cares about you? But on the scale of the people you know and interact with, your family, coworkers etc, who cares about the universe?
The problem is you are connecting yourself to the universes enitre problems and then struging to stay sane. No wonder.

Bit disappointed with this release.
I have a iMac 5k that I want to replace with a Mac mini or Studio, but monitors for Mac's are difficult since you need 5k at 27" or even 6k at 32" to keep th pixel density and then they aren't many options.
It's getting better, but prices are very high and a big issue with the 5k 27" monitors is that they are stuck at 60hz, Apple announced an approved offering here, but it's very expensive for the XDR and ideally I'd like to upgrade to 6k at 32" and have 120hz but that just seems unobtainable at the moment.

The whole military thing, as far as I can see, what OpenAI and Anthropic are doing is the same, is it not? According to OpenAI's statement it seems there terms were the same as Anthropic. Of course there is a possible reason to distrust them, but it seems public theatre.
I'm more concerned this is actually a coverup for a bribe, considering Brockman just dominated $25 million.

The App was TeuxDeux.
I haven't published it publicly yet, as i use it personally and it's a little flakey still, but will look to do in the future once I finish adding all the features.
My version is much more feature rich than TeuxDeux and I made it for Free in Google AI studio over the past two months, between other things. I'd just type a prompt and then go do some other stuff, it has taken quite a lot of revision but I haven't written a single line of code and i've been using it daily to manage my tasks since the start of December.

This is the same for me and I've not written code for years since I was a kid in school.
I vibe coded a webapp that I was paying yearly for and the version I made does everything I wish the app I paid for did as it's 100% personalised to me.
I've been thinking for awhile that this is going to be the future and I'm already starting to think of more things I will create.

"Then a month or so ago it turned back into being garbage. I waited for it to be fixed but it has remained bad."
You have not provided any evidence for that or explained what you mean. Are you using a specific version of Gemini via a service, api, Gemini app? AI studio? etc? I have noticed zero issues.
But in the last month Gemini 3 flash was released, are you getting confused between models? (Although in my experience Gemini 3 flash is excellent)
