We review all signups and their submitted content, and we have a fake account type "AI creator" which we record, so if they tried that first, it's a clue.
We also integrate a third-party AI detection tool that checks their uploaded content before they get access to the community, and we use a second third-party tool as a double-check, and if we still doubt ourselves, we'll ask for their workings-outs in some way that is relevant to their creative type.
We also ask them to prove they are the author of their work through various time-tested mechanisms.
I have no idea why people do the things they do. People are a mystery to me.

It was a surprise to us how vehemently some folk defended AI content and assumed it was their right to post it within our community.
We had no problems with people using it and posting elsewhere, it was the demands that we must allow it that were problematic and made us question whether we were doing the right thing.
No regrets now, though, as we see competitors being flooded with AI slop and they are too invested in it to change now.
Now I see it as the perfect tool for impostors.

I run a niche creative community, and we outlawed AI-generated content in 2022 as it was easy to see how corrosive it would be to the community.
It hasn't been easy. We ban fake AI accounts daily and shrug off around 600 AI content creator accounts monthly.
It's a lot of work, extra work that wasn't needed before AI content came around, and of course, that is an extra cost.
I fear losing the battle.

It seems to me that adding AI to desktop apps and sending the data back to the mothership for processing is an amazing way to collect data from people who, for the most part, would be completely unaware it's even happening.
Heck, most of them think the Internet is Chrome.

Surely, it no longer needs to be human-readable, and the era of write-only code is finally upon us with the dawn of AI writing our mealtickets.
Why bother formatting 25m lines of slop, and why is AI wasting tokens on making code look human-readable anyway?

One of my first jobs was a small software company writing software for a small number of clients, in MS basic PDS.
The lead developer didn't like to bother with formatting code, so I wrote a tool called makenice to format his nasty spaghetti gibberish into something with good indents and layout to make it easier for us normal people to parse.
He was furious, literally spun in circles about it right in the office in front of everyone, so I wrote makenasty to format code into the way he appeared to like.
I only shared makenasty/nice with a couple of the team, who loved it, as it allowed easy conversion between something readable and something the team lead like.
He never knew about makenasty.

So it's trivial for an individual to poison the LLMs, but imagine what a state with billions of American dollars could achieve.
We can easily look ahead a few years and see how people will rely on the LLMs to be a source of truth in the same way people looked at Google that way, or newspapers.
Rewriting history has been happening for a while, and with LLMs being the one-stop shop for guidance and truth, the rewrite will be complete.
Doubly so since most people see these things as artificial intelligence, and soon to be superintelligence...so how can they be wrong?
