It's a lovely image showing the dialup handshake .   My first modem was a Hayes 1200 baud.  Every modem after seemed to double.  The protocols got better too. <p>Mastery and Autonomy are often intrinsically motivations.
Usefulness is a nice suggestion and certainly resonates with me.  Working for nonprofits has more satisfying than commercial organisation.   I expect age is a factor.  I used to value interest, these days I value paycheck a bit more.</p>

Building PC's, trying to make them quiet enough to tolerate.  Buying expensive Haupage hardware encoding boards, DTV tuners and programmable remotes.  Getting the software to work at the right resolution, getting the driver to work.<p>In Australia TV listing were copywritable, so we had to crowdsource that too.</p>

<p>I have no first hand experience, but presumably there is an algorithm making recommendations of tweets to users.  I would very much expect big accounts to carry some weight.  So perhaps one approach is to follow many big accounts that have similar interests, comment often, hopeful get followed, and eventually get comments to you tweets, which then get seen by big fish followers.</p>
