well you see, in corporate (atleast in big tech), this is usually used as a justification to merge inefficient code (we will optimize it later). That later never comes, either the developers/management moves on or the work item never gets prioritized. That is until the bad software either causes outages or customer churn. Then it is fixed and shown as high impact in your next promo packet.

Yeah I also don't understand how he is able to get such high profile guests. His interview with Jeff Dean and Noam Shazeer last year[1] is so hilariously bad. Jeff and Noam kept trying to give really insightful answers on how they see AI development shaping in coming years and he was just steering the conversation to shallow and silly tabloid gossip (why don't you "just" let AI improve the next version in a loop so we can quickly have singularity, Jeff Dean AI running in a DC, evil Jeff Dean AI escaping containment and on and on). It was just embarrassing. The interview would have been so much better with just Jeff and Noam without him.
[1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0gjI__RyCY

Would highly recommend Mint. Very stable, sensible defaults. Updates never broke anything in the past several years I have been using it on desktop and laptop. Just install the latest LTS version, turn on automatic updates and forget about it.

> Where I used to spend most of my time in Cursor, I now mostly use Claude Code, almost entirely hands-off. Do I program any faster? Not really. But it feels like I've gained 30% more time in my day because the machine is doing the work. I alternate between giving it instructions, reading a book, and reviewing the changes.
This is very interesting to me and I did not know that our current LLMs can do this. Does anyone has a live coding video/stream of this workflow to do some non trivial task successfully, like developing/merging a feature for some open-source project? There is so much crap around AI on youtube that I have just stopped engaging with that stuff and not sure who are producing genuine content and who is just selling their latest grift.

If the people who came up with this design can not make the demo site performant, site which will be the first impression of your new design language for most, I don't think there is much hope for the rest of us.
But since this has name of Google attached to it, many people will mindless ape it to the detriment of experience of their users.

Totally. I had some issues where Jellyfin would transcode to remove HDR when trying to play on a HDR capable TV. Disabling transcoding completely means black screen for a lot of videos which kodi plays just find over NFS (so no chance of transcoding) on the same device.

I moved away from Plex when they started shoving free B/C movies with lewd posters on my home page and made is very hard and confusing to remove (if removing it completely was even an option, I still don't know).
The whole reason I host plex is that I want an offline experience that I curate myself. The requirement for internet to authenticate and shoveling crapware in my face pushed me towards trying Jellyfin. The Jellyfin UI on TV and mobile is not as flashy and polished as Plex, but it is extremely functional and respects users choices.
Been a happy Jellyfin customer for years now though I only use it to organize and browse my library now. Actual playback is either MPV on PC or Kodi over NFS on TV. After trying many many players, these were the two I found best for respective platforms, nothing else even comes close.

Does anyone know the best way to get some tiling behavior in tradition DEs like Cinnamon.
Some basic things like notifications, keyboard controls for volume/brightness, sound etc don't work the best in i3wm by default and requires some fiddling on each machine to get it to work properly.
I love the out of the box behavior of my Mint installation and don't want to switch completely to something like i3wm.
I could get even a watered down version tiling and stacking like i3 with keyboard shortcuts, I would be very happy. There is gTile but it doesn't quite work the same way.

I have very similar experience to yours (though I have yet to checkout Blazor, see my other comment in this thread).
I also read CSS in Depth book by Keith Grant recently based on someone's recommendation on HN. After struggling with CSS for over a decade, it all finally makes sense now. I can layout a page exactly how I have it in mind. Webdev can be so much fun and productive with server side rendering, beautiful CSS and some sprinkling of JS where required.

I made atleast 3 web apps for personal use (hosted on my home server, accessible only within the local network) in Asp.Net (on linux) and I can say it is the best development experience I have had in a while. It is as boring as it gets, batteries included, performant and excellent docs. Can be very stripped down setup using Minimal APIs for simple cases, but can support more complex requirements using Razor pages or MVC.
I very strongly believe it's only Microsoft's reputation that is hindering it's adoption outside enterprise settings (and very deservedly so).
