This is especially the case with lower end phones. My mother (an immigrant whose family communicates via WhatsApp, and other free services) buys a new phone every year or so because her BoA, or transit app can’t be used without the version of Android that was never released for her phone.

It’s some real “serpent eating its own tail” sh*t if I ever saw it.

I'm not OP, but it's not entirely about the content being viewed. A lot of unsupervised online access takes the form of large swathes of time.

Not every parent would necessarily want their child online for 3 - 5+ hours, especially doing things like participating in communities.

That was the first thing I thought. UI is super important, and I hate when I see great projects suffer because they're.. well, ugly.

What about getting a T480 and replacing the screen itself? You can find a decent one for ~$400 USD, and a 1080p or WQHD screen for another $100.

As for screen availability, I think it's more to do with the fact that these are business computers. Lenovo only recently started blurring the line between their premium and business class devices.

I think every post-Haswell ThinkPad comes with a 720p screen in it's default configuration. At least up until Tx90/5 series.

Maybe? Any (recent, 8th gen and up) 's' model Thinkpad would be fine, especially with a WQHD screen. 4K would bludgeon their battery.
