You don’t understand because you’re not an expert? First off they have numerous non-humanoid robots if you follow them at all. Second, Clearly they’ve got strong reasoning, they’ve just been bought. Third, out of thousands of attempts at humanoids, their robots are seemingly the best we’ve yet seen in this class. They must be doing it right when so few others got any traction.

There’s zero value? Surely you don’t believe zero, it’s potentially the most powerful predictive AI in the world ever made? Maybe only incremental steps sure. But also their IPO is coming, you don’t want people evaluating them beforehand?

Exactly. Not 4 years ago I was rejected from a job for not having enough NLP experience. Can you imagine that today? Someone being hired to do NLP in the market of LLMs?

Maybe they see it eradicating their job prospects and being used to cheat and invalidate their hard studying by others who want an insane productivity boost? That’s not fair to them if others are cheating and they’re learning properly.

Some ad junct professors may be making 5-10k per course. It’s basically lower than minimum wage. We can’t expect them to police students enthusiastically when they’re paid so lowly.

That was a low effort comment, I agree with you and I downvoted theirs. HN rules specify comments should drive the conversation forward. They used n=1 anecdata and called your employers bad places, oversimplifying the complexities into a simplistic 3 letter word.

Let’s keep the short caustic comments to ourselves people. The world is crazy enough without making other peoples days worse with drivel!

That’s still important. GenX is smaller than the boomers or millennials.

If millennials and young men continue supporting maga and Trump’s party as they did last election, it won’t help much if Boomers expire.

Boomers also surprisingly voted slightly less for Trump than previous elections, his coalition in 24 expanded a bit to Hispanics and young men etc. he won due to inflation and covid imo, and probably due to sexism and only 107 days for Kamala to campaign (thanks Biden).

What about single celled or microscopic multi-cellular life forms? They could sense positive and negative aspects to their surroundings and move toward/away from said aspects. I don’t think most would include them as conscious despite this directed behavior.

Did you read the article? He struggled for many years before achieving fame, and his main source of purpose was having young children. The HN headline doesn’t give the context that he feels outside of Mr Show and raising children, and after a near death experience, he feels less purpose than ever.
