<p>They have already done optogenetics on non-human primates.<p><a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnana.2023.1193949/full" rel="nofollow">https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnana.2023.1193...</a><p>However, I think those methods of triggering opsins are rather invasive (implants). I don't think it would be hard to design light activated opsins to recieve frequencies in the optical window of skin/bone.
