As an engineering student I can’t imagine taking notes a by only typing. I was always drawing diagrams and 2d and 3d graphs etc . No way I can do that with keyboard and mouse fast enough for a college class

I assume those agreements were probably signed before the current fascist regime running the US government and now they want to upend the terms of said agreement to allow in more fascism to aforementioned contract.

I don't believe they got fed up honestly. I think it's just their "think of the children" scheme to get blackmail material on people and in hopes they can use it for other nefarious activities in the future. It's always been this way when "think of the children" comes up, it's never about children, it's about power.

yep text is bad enough, screw hosting videos and images from randos on the web. I would 100% host a forum or similar if the honor system worked, but it only takes a couple gooner CSAM deviants to ruin your entire life on something like that and you wouldn't know what happened until the gov showed up on your doorstep

Care to go into a bit more on machine specs? I am interested in picking up a rig to do some LLM stuff and not sure where to get started. I also just need a new machine, mine is 8y-o (with some gaming gpu upgrades) at this point and It's That Time Again. No biggie tho, just curious what a good modern machine might look like.

are you using a VPN? that happens often to me. might be a combo of that and ublock origin. I'm guessing archive gets a ton of attacks from VPN so they probably just have rules to captcha any VPN address. I have a local proxy on rpi setup and then a container in firefox that lets me use that to quickly swap to a proxy that uses my real IP. very handy for shit like this.

My work laptop does the same thing. Pretty maxed out for a Dell but still can be slow, especially right click context menu. Someone else said it could be endpoint software (executable scanning?) which makes sense. things improved a bit after a I turned off the eye candy under appearance settings other than font rendering and shadowing. Might be worth a try.

I think the big downside for a lot of people is that it's hosted in the USA where the government is definitely headed in an autocratic direction that is abusive of most countries who don't comply to rantings from an orange madman. Definitely a huge downside.

A lot of them are not really legitimate though. There's a reason that 4th amendment needs a modern version to require a warrant for tapping of any sort for things people generally assume are private. Flock, palantir, etc need to all go bankrupt, starved of data to spy on. In an ideal world of course. Maybe someday we'll wake up from the nightmare.

The engineers who developed this developed it to a spec so that microsoft demanded that allows them to get into the system at any time. There was nothing lazy about it. This would be easily found by anyone who has the impetus to encrypt their drive. Don't put things on your work laptop that you don't want Dom down in IT reading all of it or Phil the police forensics dick
