I remember the biggest "missing features" of the iPhone people asked for were MMS and OBEX, along with 3G.
I also remember Apple had cared for most missing things by the iPhone 3G respectively iOS 3. Then they improved photo quality, speed and videos until the iPhone 4 respectively iOS 4/5. Similar things can be said about the iPad 2.
After that, I've had the feeling the product didn't improve anymore, because there was nothing actually useful left to add. I've used my iPhone 4 for 10 years, while Apple enjoyed adding more complexity without true benefit, except maybe the file manager and on-device image editing.

One of the main problems in suggesting Discord alternatives is that Discord itself is an amalgamation of several apps.
For some a Discord alternative needs to be a voicecall, for others it‘s game streaming, and for others it‘s just a chat, a bulletinboard or newsgroup, while they never used the Voice features.

The target user group for Discord actually is children and teens. Look at that UI and how it‘s trying to sell you „swag“.
Then, Discord is not uncomplicated. From „Servers“ not being servers, multiple account onboarding levels, to what happens when Discord believes you are a bot or are using a blacklisted IP.

The same (want to see docs first, decide thoroughly, risk aversion, etc.) is true for Europe. We just are nearer in terms of sales, so we were greeted early with aggressive US marketing tactics, so it is ignored and wondered about why we don‘t just buy the damn thing.

Interesting. What you are wishing for is, in essence, (Open)VMS. It exists!

The whole NeXT GUI widget set, as well as Rhapsody GUI widget set, and several 80‘s style NeXT tool icons, are still in Mac OS 15 in some assets.car file. And before car files where a thing, it must have been either TIFFs or PDFs.
Here someone even hacked an older version of Mac OS X to actually use the NeXT and Platinum styles:
