You need a license from Microsoft to resell Windows licenses as an OEM.

If you request this, AWS requires:

"After your move away from AWS services, within the 60-day period, you must delete all remaining data and workloads from your AWS account, or you can close your AWS account."

So egress charges are still a significant problem.

It's realistically for the handful (dozens at most?) of very large Riak implementations where it would be enormously expensive to rewrite the application running on top of it.

For example, the UK NHS Spine messaging system which has been building on Riak for 10 years

It's pretty common, all the biggest clouds are USA or China owned.

In the UK government services go through information security classification to determine what level of security is needed, with the most confidential stuff still being self-hosted.

I assume most countries operate that way.

The car company can share the details based on the chassis VIN number rather than driver details.

Then the insurance company grabs the vehicle registration number when you ask for a quote and looks up the VIN on their side based on a security database to prevent resale of stolen cars or similar.

Anonymous data becomes identifiable data...
