So can you please explain me the rise of Switzerland, Singapore and South Korea? No natural resources, no energy independency, small countries surrounded by enemies. And why Russia that has all the natural resources of the world is such a failed state? Starting conditions are something that was valid around 2000 years ago in the civilization and empires rise and fall. Not actual anymore.

Every top university worldwide open to international talent offers the programs in English, from South Korea to Europe, Singapore etc. The challenge would have to keep the talents in country after the university, and language barrier, especially in South Korea plays a role. But US administration is making also harder for companies to hire international talents, and many of those have in any case offices in Europe to avoid the issue. In any case the silicon valley and industrial/tech hubs have historically born around university excellence campus, which is what the US policy is currently degrading. In Europe, beside the UK, there are at least Zurich ETH and TU Delft that have the potential to growth enormously by taking advantage of that.

US keep pursuing this political agenda that goes against the whole foundation of the country rise as world superpower. I wonder how long it needs to last before Europe starts to roll serious academic policy that attracts the orphaned talent refused by US.
The Netherlands started well with the Tulip Fund but a systematic effort is needed. Korea is expanding his VISA grants for AI or tech top talents. Its the first time in decades where top world talent does not point altogether towards US and will be interesting to see which policy from other countries will reveal to be more effective. It's a tight window to take advantage of before the change in US administration so an economical effort in a short time period is required.

I got three down votes on my previous comment and did not get why, I guess hard facts are difficult to accept but I also appreciate my comment was quite doomer style. What I mean is that European countries and elite are responsible for their lack of coordinated strategy in any kind of communal threat, at least on major topics like how to deal with USA, China, Russia or mass Africa and Middle East immigration. Each country act as a sole actor and is very easy to exploit that for Trump or external agents. Some places, that are still able to advocate for themselves and their interest in a strong way will keep to thrive: Switzerland, Norway, some regions in Germany (Baviera) or the north of Italy and I see good politics and growth in Poland and other East countries.

I do agree with you, although I think that there may be still some advancement available in software in terms of programming languages or novel architecture design. But frontier is much more around hardware, just thinking about computing power, electrical transmission, material constraints on power, connectivity, insulation. I would definitely advise kids to study physics and materials engineering than CS.

It's not that we are entitled to free stuff, but if you have access to models that are incredibly cheaper than Gemini and arguably more performative, it's very reasonable to point out that Google can afford to raise the prices thanks solely to the enormous scale and distribution power, specially with B2B market that rejects Chinese models.

Also governments should investigate how to incentive real life dating, or foster situations in which people can know each other more organically than by the magazine / algorithm driven online world. Many service of speed date, dinners and night activity already exist in the private market, have a government sponsor on the back can be a valid alternative as you would have potential access to better places (public palaces, museum, squares) that gets reserved for the purpose or you can explore economic incentives. Like public workers have right of a holiday day more if the go to a day government date. People are very busy, overworked and serious dating is often seen as another effort sucking activity, so incentives on those sides have potential.

I agree, will be interesting to see the evolution.
I know notable sources from the US academia that points to the problem since way before the AI, even if the they are from human science and economics, don't know much about the STEM status. Accordingly, the first slop crisis got a big hit with the initial woke wave in the mid 2000', then another hit during COVID, in which thousands of pointless papers about the effect where produced and an immense amount of research effort was towards it, and now AI.
Science will keep progressing, even at a faster piece, the real problem will be to justify the work and output of thousand of people and researcher that currently need a salary. It may be that the academia will adjust to split between professionals focused on the pure teaching skill, while the research and publication aspect of academia will go to have much higher barriers and restricted to less people. Relevant publication will not become a standard requirement for a successful academic career but also teaching skills.

I don't believe that AI will be able to replace doctors or lawyers anytime soon, and I am positive that it can't replace pecorino. But pecorino is a nice addition to have, should not be the pillar of the economy. If US doctors and lawyers disappear the demand for expensive Italian cheese in the States would drop a little I am sure. Happy to exchange pecorino producers with Apple :)

Its quite an interesting use of collateral and of course is sustainable only as market keeps believing that demand for cheese forms stays either steady or increases. Currently you have around 3 years to bring the form to the market, and refinance the flow, older than that you go to target premium cheese market sections that value really old and matured forms. Until it lasts you ride it, I am Italian and I have a bitter sweet feeling about that, I do recognize and appreciate the value and exclusivity of parmigiano in foreign markets and I also believe is going to last a lot over the years, so from the bank prospective it may not be a huge risky bet. However, can't avoid to notice that Italy makes it to international finance news only when it comes to food and other low tech products.

I disagree. I can understand AI comments for bot, farming purposes but that would have a benefit application on a very limited type of content. For Youtube I still prefer to read comments from people, to have an authentic discussion on their opinion, ideas. By definition infinite AI takeover on internet "opinion" side would standardize on the median of whatever model is most used and everything would sound more flat and predictable. I think blogs or early 2010 type of forums is what people will try to find more and more on the internet, and the market for AI bot recognition and ban tools will become huge to afford that.

Its a very good deal for Denmark too, especially on the long term with a more sane person than Trump in charge. The benefit are good for both parties and gives Denmark a role of exclusive ally to US in the region, something like South Korea in the East Asia, before Trump broke with them too.
