But then you’re stuck running Linux as your primary OS, which is a huge drawback.
FWIW, I’ve done both, FreeBSD with a virtualised OpenBSD for WiFi, and currently I run Arch so I can do gaming, with FreeBSD virtualised for development. I’m kind of looking to go back to my previous setup.

Why is that “obviously “? I find Linux to be a broken mess.
FWIW I use them both, FreeBSD and Arch , but let’s not pretend the layers of crap tacked onto the Linux kernel is some pinnacle of computing.

This is downvoted but needs to be said.
Thunderbird was an amazing 90's style piece of software that has unfortunately been been changed into a more "modern" look, with excessive white space and power-user hostile work flows.
It was near perfect, just needed better search, pretty much.

Many programmers("software developers") believe they have the final say on what an application should be like, and they were mostly right before the advent of LLM assisted software development.
I started programming as a child, although I was more interested in system administration.
Today I work as a high voltage test engineer on new substations. I do partial discharge measurements mostly on green field sites.
I have developed amazing tools for myself, software that I could only dream of having that would have taken years of cat herding and millions of dollars, and still not be quite what I wanted. I am a competent programmer, but I don't have the time. I have the ideas, I even know how to do it, but I already work 50-60 hours a week.
Now I can ping pong my ideas with chatgpt and claude and get something useful out of it, all in the background.
The only thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth, is that this technology is owned by at best neutral corporations. I want to host it myself, but I can't pay the money, which sucks.

No, this is not “propaganda “ to justify anything Trump is up to.
The USA has not been “problematic”, it has enforced a particular ideology on the world with the rest of us unwilling participants.
The USA has repeatedly overthrown diplomatically elected leaders(Iran ironically being the best example, a democratic government toppled because it was stopping American business interests and democratising its oil resources) so the USAs ownership class can make their fortunes.
Sometimes , it has stopped elections, exterminated millions, set their villages on fire, because the people were picking the wrong ideology.
Remove your rose tinted glasses.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Is_a_Racket
