Only during the day... Nuclear power still FAR outperforms solar at night.
I'm sick of everyone saying that solar is this great solution that will solve all our energy woes. There are times and places for it for sure, but we don't have the battery capacity to actually go all-in on it. (And nobody will ever approve the large-scale hydro-batteries we need, and manufacturing conventional batteries is terrible for the environment, negating the gains that solar gives us.)

I don't get how anyone views this as a monopoly? As a media company, they provide entertainment. It's hard to argue that if the quality of entertainment slips, people are forced to continue consuming the entertainment. There are already SOOO many alternatives; everyone and their mothers are starting up their own paid streaming services (Nebula, etc...) and anyone can start a YouTube channel and get millions of viewers if they have good content. (And don't offend the YouTube overlords)
If we want to talk about monopolies, let's talk about YouTube. That's a far larger gatekeeper, and they have a proven track record of shutting people out for breaking their random rules, with little oversight.

We've had a solution to this for a long time in various programs - let the user tell the application how much they know. By default, settings are extremely limited, but you can change settings to "advanced" or "expert", and more options/settings become available.
There is no reason this couldn't work for permissions as well; beginners get the system locked down pretty well, whereas advanced users get a more open system they can do more with, at the expense of potential foot-guns)
(As a side note, we could probably make a plane that had this principle applied as well. With autopilot where it is today, we could easily make a commercial plane that grandma could fly under most circumstances - you just need that real pilot and extra controls for when things go wrong.)

I never once said that there can't or shouldn't be any restrictions in place. By all means, put laws in place where recording video in a locker room is a felony, for example. I'm just saying that a blanket ban because it could be bad is extremely short-sighted.

Flat out banning a category of product because it is possible to use it for bad things is stupid. Thousands of people are killed by cars every year - should we ban them? (Being killed is far worse than being recorded naked in a locker room. Not saying the latter is great, but it's better than being dead)
There are also potential good uses for this tech. As someone who can't remember anyone's name worth crap, I can't wait for smart glasses with facial recognition and a name tag that hovers over everyone. I'm sure there will be great benefit in industry, giving workers heads up displays of all manner of important information.
Just like any new technology, there is equal potential for good and bad.

Cloudflare is simply following the time-honored trajectory:
1. Good company starts, with good service and mission
2. Because company has good service and mission, company grows to control a majority of the market
3. Company realizes they can leverage their market for other means and sells their soul to the devil
4. People realize company is no longer good
5a. People leave company
-or-
5b.
> You assert this without evidence.
I mean, there are plenty of instances if you are willing to look...

Defcon famously has its voting village, where hackers hack voting machines via numerous means. If you think this isn't happening (or at least being attempted) in reality (by either party, and/or outside countries) you are naive.
> That's not how rights work. Would you say that there should be a "barrier to entry" for freedom of speech or gun rights?
Yes, there is a barrier of entry for freedom of speech and gun rights; it's called holding on to freedom itself, and it is a VERY difficult and bloody ordeal that can be lost extremely quickly if not protected. (See all non-free countries, or even parts of Europe where you can now be jailed for making certain comments online.)
I never said the barrier for entry should be a test, like the "literacy tests" we implemented during Jim Crow, but if you aren't willing to give up something for your freedom, you probably don't deserve it. (Not saying you must necessarily give something up, just that you must be willing to give something up.)

> Also for every skid you get on a coaster brake I'll raise you a nose Endo with the front disc brake!
I can slam on my front disc brakes and not endo. Step 1: shift your weight all the way to the back. (hang off the back of the seat). Step 2: have front suspension.
Weight shift is mostly enough on its own, but front suspension eats up whatever endo tendency is left.
