At this point, LLM's are "good enough" for all kinds of tasks. Instead of making them more capable, now the efforts are making them smaller and cheaper.

All aboard! We're racing to the bottom now.

Ask HN: LM Studio Bionic with Python?

HoldOnAMinute — Fri, 25 Sep 2026 19:35:28 +0000

Trying to use Bionic and it seems to have its own micro python which doesn't have pip, or micropip, so there is no way to even install pandas. If you can't even analyze CSV files, what good is this?

New comment by HoldOnAMinute in "Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away?"

This is what I'm referring to - the seamless integration - "it just works".

New comment by HoldOnAMinute in "Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away?"

HoldOnAMinute — Fri, 18 Sep 2026 18:06:21 +0000

No - Here is what I mean. When I use Claude Code locally with Ollama/Quen, it can do the work just fine - like creating a script - but it just outputs it, rather than placing it into a file. So far I can't convince it to actually WRITE to a file. With Claude Code, it just works. Recursing around the file system, it just does it. I can't get that working locally.

I hated them at first, but since I am already dependent on iCloud Keychain to manage my passwords, I just figured there is not really any additional risk. I just make sure I will always have multiple, healthy devices, which are always patched, charged, and sync'ed. And don't put them all in the same physical location at one time.

Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away?

HoldOnAMinute — Fri, 18 Sep 2026 15:14:23 +0000

I have become very proficient with Claude Code and I use it for everything, both at work and in my personal life. At this point, if I lost access to it, it would be like missing a body part. At the risk of hyperbole, it makes me a better person. I am more effective in everything I do. Someday it will probably go away. I haven't had great success making Claude Code work with local Ollama/Quen.
