Even though Chrome automatically updates on people's personal computers, bureaucracies like my university still use a version that is more than a year old (could be over 2 yrs). I hope Google finds a way to force such luddite organisations to update regularly.

I avoid literally everything that is owned by Yahoo. This is almost entirely due to how they present themselves. A bad logo is evidence of a company that does not care about their products or services. They are finally making steps to improve their image.

It is downright citizen hostile when a government uses non-free software. Want to fill out this form? Download the doc file which only displays correctly in Microsoft Office. Have enough money for a computer but not enough for office? Too bad. Microsoft has done a lot of good, but no company/corp deserves a monopoly on virtual paper.

Comments with "Really?" on the end are extremely disrespectful, and I see it all the time. Just because something is obvious and common-sense to you, does not mean it is to someone else. Offending someone is not a good form of persuasion. Please consider not doing that in future because you probably do have good ideas, and it would be nice if people heard them.
Speaking of this design, the icons are asymmetric. More so by the unharmonious colour selection. However, the notification centre and animations are well done.

OS X may not be as reliable as advertised. Most people don't have issues. But my mac has significant issues with any software that needs to be installed. Drag-and-drop installs to the applications directory are fine, but anything like Mac app store, Adobe update manager, or Office Mac installers will not function correctly. My apps also frequently crash. I have lost hours in the double-digits to my unreliable mac. Never had these issues on Windows. Now I'm stuck and unsure about any future mac purchase.

The post discusses assets and creating asset modules for constructing their virtual worlds. It would be interesting if they discussed hardware constraints, and how lifting those constraints effects the creative process. The release status of an unreleased console is inconsequential to the information. It has been announced that the new playstation console has 8gb's of ram. In my experience playing Bethesda's games on console and PC, consoles take a significantly longer time to load. Even if a current-generation console is more powerful than a PC, it will be much slower than a PC at loading assets. This has nothing to do with hard-disk speed, as running the game off of equally slow HDD's of a console and a PC, the PC will still significantly quicker. Someone voted me down for my comment. I was not expecting them to cover this in a post about an already-released game. I just said it would be interesting (in future).
We all have to be really careful when commenting on the internet, especially Hacker News, that we are clear. For that I apologise, even if I am quite a bit annoyed, though I realise it is my fault. I have been toying with the idea of building an online community, but I think I will pass on that idea as I don't like excluding people. What did I offer this discussion? = nothing. What did most other people? = nothing. Why are we even discussing this?

It would be good if they addressed load speed. Will the 8Gb of RAM in the PS4 make their next game load new areas immediately now?

On my playstation 2 I had a demo disc that had a YaBasic compiler. I wrote game code with my controller. I used other people's source code to make pong and pac-man, and had little understanding of what I was doing - but still managed to change the colours. It also introduced me to manually checking the syntax of the code. http://members.iinet.net.au/~jimshaw/yabasic.me.uk/faq/

The next stage is hidden design. I'm not saying this as a joke. It can be very difficult to understand because almost everything is hidden. It could be called minimalism, but it takes it to such a degree people don't see it. Think of the nest thermostat, jawbone bracelet, or even telling a television to start a movie (and having it just do it, without any visual UI).

I enjoy his writing, but I don't take his writing as gospel. As with anything anyone says, we should exercise some judgement on the validity and biases of their ideas.
In 2011 in Marco's podcast he stated that 7" tablet devices don't make any sense, but then in 2012 he had changed his mind when the iPad mini was approaching its announcement. I am not calling him a liar, but just pointing out that opinions change and... opinions are just opinions.
I share his concern that each new feed reading service will use a different sync API, and am happy others will be reading this blog post. Regardless of whether Marco has jumped on the popular story bandwagon or not so he can make a few advertising dollars, this post is of value to enough people to up-vote it.
