Everybody is complaining about this, at this point I’m sure they will deliver a tone of voice change in the 5.1 releases. Possibly with a new set of problems though, especially if this is part of an effort to obscure thinking to reduce distillation efficacy. In that case I believe Anthropic is doing damage to themselves. Caring about the quality of your product is the best strategy, the competition will come no matter what.

I would take that risk in exchange for access to more capabilities but I am understanding most people risk acceptance is lower than mine. Some want to live in a world of rubber.

These are really bad examples! Actually you listed 3 things with no underlying value. A more proper example would be a knife, it is a very useful tool and can also be abused. Honestly I would rather live with the risk than in a world without knives. But to each his own.

You don’t need the entire codebase in context in every moment to migrate it. Also AI being non deterministic does not prevent it from one-shotting perfect solutions 100% of the time for simple enough problems. And every model generation brings this bar higher. So that’s really not a fundamental problem. And we can also implement llm inference deterministically if we want, it’s just that it’s not worth the loss in performance to do it.

I agree Gemini's value is not at the frontier, but they are making very useful smaller models. 3.5 flash lite is super fast, cheap and token efficient and accepts any kind of input. For large, price-sensitive processing, in consolidated workflows that don't need the latest improvement, it is the best. Perhaps they should focus on improving their dominance on this business, I don't see gemini reaching claude/gpt in coding. But they could be the ones that make it possible, and economically viable, to roll out llms in large scale automation.

Whisper large v3 turbo works fine locally on recent iphones, weird to keep it out of the comparison
