Not entirely. With GrapheneOS, google play services and any other google apps have the same level of control over permissions as any other app. So you can deny access to any features that you don't want it to have access to. Others in this thread have recommended using a separate profile for google apps so it's not even running when you're not using it.

I think Graphene spoofs the most basic level of Google's security thing but they never wanted to spoof anything higher because it would just turn into a cat and mouse game that they would eventually lose.

They recommend that app developers adopt the much stronger and vendor-neutral Android hardware attestation API instead.

I went down the rabbit hole of trying to find the best binary JSON-ish format a couple of years ago, it's very interesting to compare their different design choices. Having read the specification, this looks to be a fresh and minimalist take on a binary format, which is great.

In general, it seems CBOR won the standardisation and support battle while also being one of the more complex and ambiguous (in terms of the number of ways to encode something) formats. I think MessagePack is nicer, though I still wish UBJSON caught on.

What's interesting is that the Minecraft netcode is so bad that your client physics doesn't even need to be accurate or even correct for it to work. There is no verification that the client's inputs actually match the player's resulting position (not that they're even sent to the server). The client sends their position to the server, the server does some simple checks for flying, speed hacks, phasing through walls, and that's about it. Which is why there's all sorts of interesting movement cheats, and also why most servers run some kind of third-party anticheat plugin.

It's weird that keyboards before this just didn't have a key there. No one looked at the almost entirely contiguous main block of keys and thought "huh we could put another key in that gap"?

It's not immediately clear to me whether they're planning to federate with the existing ActivityPub-based network (hard to sat whether they would be accepted) or something based on their own protocol (which probably wouldn't gain traction)

There are ways of putting graphics on screen without requiring users to have WebGL enabled/supported. I think my mobile browser has it disabled for security.

All metaverse articles and marketing is so weird to me because people have been doing this and much more for years in VRChat. It's far from the perfect platform but it's where real people actually hang out, unlike the metaverse.

My guess is that your question isn't seen as relevant to the post (it's more of a general Android topic) and it has an ad for your failed submission which could be seen as manipulation, which is highly frowned upon on this site. There's a bias against the stereotype of Apple users too.

Honestly the most appealing thing for me is the seven years of software support. The Pixel 5 support leaves a lot to be desired, given that I don't even want to upgrade from the hardware.

The demo video of their AI photo editor was kind of mind blowing but ultimately not a feature I would use. I've seen a few complaints about their automatic photo processing as well, which you can't disable in the official camera app.

Overall the majority of their features seem to be software which is tied to Google apps/services, which doesn't sit well with me.
