Hey man, I can't be the person to fully educate you on this but 2.7 degrees of average increase does not translate to a slightly warmer summer day. The language used makes it very misleadingly sound like no big deal, but it is a BIG deal. Without trying to be cliche, there is an XKCD for this and here it is: https://xkcd.com/1732/
A short way to get the point across is that when the earth's average temperature was 4°C lower than it was in 1990, that was an ice age. "Boston is buried under almost a mile of ice".
Imagine such a dramatic climate change in the other direction, 5°C hotter than 1990.

Can you really describe kids or parents with any kind of meaning using a binary "good" and "bad"? Aren't most people great in situations that suit them and allow them to thrive and use their skills and talents, and bad in situations where they don't have the tools to be successful?

Hackernews is down on Facebook for lots of good reasons. But outside of this bubble, working for a big name like Facebook or Meta will impress basically every future employer and open hundreds of doors for you. Yes, do it. The great thing about internships is that you don't have to stay after it's over, if the company's ethics make you feel gross. You can get firsthand knowledge instead of relying on the peanut gallery around here.

I think it's a cashflow vs capital thing. I'm in a similar situation - my wife and I aren't making much money at the moment, but our condo increased in value by so much that we were able to buy a million-dollar property. Granted it would have been a 300k property about ten years ago, but here we are. And due to the condo sale and the magic of financing, we have about 100k leftover to spend on renovating it and making it feel worth the money we spent. But we don't have much cashflow, so we need to spend that money as efficiently as possible, because once it's spent it will take a LONG time to build back up.
