Man, I probably say no to like 40% of the requests I get as a dev. Often we will come up with a better way of doing things by just spending 15-30 mins talking to the business about the actual problem they are having.
Some are just flat out refused as they are just too stupid and will cripple the system in some way.

The point isnt to give a simple answer, even if it's a correct answer. The point is show how much you know and how smart you are.
The question is framed to you as a way for you to show you know x, y and z and talk about x, y and z.
Even if a valid solution is just do a, that's great. But the interviewer has no idea if you actually know about x ,y and z do they ?

As someone who would like to get a new PC (but a desktop) for coding, and is considering a mac, why would you never buy a mac for coding ?
I'm currently running Ubuntu on this ancient thing (which I love actually), but I absolutely don't want Windows.

I've seen it in person once with a former coworker, everything created anxiety, everything was problematic, she spent her entire time looking for a reason to be offended (especially tenuously on behalf of someone else). It was exhausting trying to work with her. She took so much time off too, at very short notice, as she just couldn't cope with working that day.

Probably.
I did find it quite tough for a lot of years to treat myself, as I would try to save as much as I can to have a safety net. But even now with a safety net in the bank, I still have in the back of my head if I purchase something that is x mortgage payments, and I could save that instead to have in the bank in case I lose my job.

It wasn't snarky at all. You are being overly defensive for no reason.
I've never been asked to "grind" leetcode, I've never been asked a leetcode style question at any interview I've had (and I'm in my mid 40s). I've never had any feeling of needing to do leetcode, and as far as I know neither have my friends.
The reason I asked if it was mainly a US thing was because I assume (maybe wrongly) that the majority of HN users are in the US, and this leetcode thing pops up a lot.

The demos barely work for me at all on Chrome.
The sliding puzzle is really finicky, have to try multiple times to slide stuff, the top left (back) arrow stopped working altogether until I refreshed the page, which of course takes you back to the original page... The time picker looks awful with the numbers not centrally aligned to the control (they look too high), and it's finnicky to use / same with the date picker.
Awful.
