My point is simply that you might have habits that made you filter out those channels, but the stats show that using clickbait thumbnails and titles has an impact that tremendously change the views.
Youtube creators are spending sometimes 1/3 of the time of production of a video on the thumbnail, with a dozen of variations in A/B testing. They have to optimize because the basic user decides in the first 5 seconds if they will continue watching. And Youtube punishes content creator if they notice that those users don't stay more than those few seconds.
I believe the vast majority of the creators (the "players") hate having to resort to those, but they just don't have a choice if they want it to be sustainable.

I have used Photosohop for almost 20 years, and then Affinity, Krita, and Gimp here and there.
In my opinion, it's a bit of both. At first I thought I was just used to Photoshop and I had to just accept losing productivity to make the switch.
But there something about Gimp UX that I can't get over, even though I can't really explain what is it. Of course fighting the muscle memory for all the features is a pain, but there's more. I can't find logic in the shortcuts, the menu organisation... I have not struggled as much for Krita or Affinity when I tried it.

One of my favorite channel apologized for it but explained that the difference compared to NOT doing this is phenomenal and they can't afford stopping.

The proliferation of AI generate posts annoys me for two reasons:
1. It takes quite some entitlement to expect people to use of their own brain time for something you couldn't be bothered with
2. Even though SOTA LLM don't hallucinate as much anymore, they still produce low quality content:

 - Georgia's letters are already tall, that's literally what it was designed for. Stretching it taller fixes nothing and the stretch trick is broken anyway: the text gets bigger but the space it's given doesn't, so it spills onto whatever's underneath

 - a bunch of those "easy wins" do nothing at all, and one of them makes the text thinner right after the post tells you to make it thicker.

 - it never mentions Georgia's weird numbers. They dip below the line and never line up in a column. That's a big issue

I have never played any train sim, but I read video game press that this one hits different.
A lot of train sim are about building the rail network, where Running Train focuses on driving. The scenery (dozens of kilometers of japanese railway) is beautiful and it reproduces the japanese railway system realistically.

I don't get the analogy.
Guinness didn't want to make it public because he was afraid competition would start using it, and then lose his company's advantage.
In the current context, the retention didn't happen because of Anthropic. On the contrary, the company wanted to offer Mythos/Fable.

Yes, it doesn't sound like a wise decision given what we know about the usual practices of those services. But the average consumer is not as savvy as us HN users.
I would not blame someone for expecting to own permanent access to the content if they purchase it. This only happens because big Sony and such are not held accountable of their actions, they are the one to blame.
