My knowledge on functional languages is limited, but as I understand it, it’s possible to formulate expressions that are basically NP problems?
And hence impossible to speed up?
So is it a F# issue or inherent to functional programming?

An unbeatable argument, really.
But still there is a difference between learning and mastering.
I recently helped my partner learn for her CS class, and I feel very comfortable arguing that my previous statement holds up.
Mastering? No, in that case I agree with you.

If it’s not for you I guess that is ok. But from your comment I would also deduct that you never professionally used it.
After so many different languages it’s the only one I always comeback to.
The only things that I wish for are: rusts borrow-checker and memory management. And the AOT story would be more natural.
Besides that, for me, it is the general purpose language.

You are looking at it from what you know about C#, the goal is how can you reduce (delete) all this to make the language more accessible.
For you it may be fine to write:
List<string> strs = new List<string>();
And sure if you have been using C# for years you know all the things going on here.
But it shouldn’t be an argument that:
List<string> strs = [];
Is substentionally easier to grasp.
And that has been the theme of all changes.
The example you point out is the advanced case, someone only needs in a very specific case. It does not have a lot todo with learning the language.
The language design team is really making sure that the features work well throughout and I think that does deserve some credit.

You aren’t giving enough credit to the careful evaluation of how this adaption is happening.
So far everything that was added to C# very much reduces the amount of dead boilerplate code other languages struggle with.
Really give it an honest try before you judge it based on the summation of headlines.

This feels weird somehow. It feels like: Damn we can’t train our AI any better as everything regurgitated slop now.
How can we get people to create new content for us, hopefully with new ideas …
Might be just me though, but I definitely don’t get why blogging should be the solution.

Exactly my point, your country is only sending you to the Olympics if you are their absolute best.
The competitive part does not start at the Olympics. The Olympics are already the price.

You are aware that this is about athletes and not spectators, right?
I agree when it comes to spectators, at least in some sports.
But people do make a living, especially in poor countries, by being successful in sports.

A source is not required, taking part in the Olympics alone, means outperforming your countries other athletes. If that doesn’t happen there wouldn’t be a reason for the article.

This is more about logic.
For this article to be relevant a spot for the Olympics of either gender has been taken by a trans athlete.
Which by conclusion means that a trans person outperformed the other gender.
Taking part in the Olympics is a difficult endeavor, for which you must qualify first.

It’s simple you can’t go drinking under age, you can’t drive a car under age. And the harm that can come from the internet is well above this so it makes sense to also ask for id. I agree though that it needs a system to protect information.
It’s not about the system being always fail safe it’s about the general rule that by default what is happening is not legal to protect and not put the burden on every parent or family.
„But Jonas parents allow him to do that“ in reality Jonas parents should not have a say in this.

I don’t see how this is connected to the point at hand here.
I think taking time to make sure the system works is the right call. Delaying it is the right call.
Not publishing something because you had a different impression previously, just because, is the right call.
I think it integrity to delay a product even when your investors might get angry.
Is it a winning strategy at wallstreet? No, probably not.
But what is the argument here „Musk bad“ because he delays a product because it’s not ready?
I think doing the due diligence is required here. Musk argument „it’s solved“ could even be argued by „look at Waymo“ they are doing it, aren’t they?
Tesla is aiming for more than that though.
And as it is in product development sometimes, sometimes your don’t know what you don‘t know.
Because why do you want to focus on chains guarding parkingspots, your cameras aren’t able to see, when your car can’t even drive through the city.
This is such a big thing to solve and 100% is impossible given some definitions.
Back to the article, I think delaying for safety is the right call, and that is also what the article says. It’s just that the article is in bad faith, as most of the arguments here are.
You probably would turn around and slam Musk for a System that obviously problematic as the alternative and until then it’s saying that he delays.
And if it were obviously problematic I think it would be much louder than just an article from a website that is know for having a biased view at things.
