That's a false dichotomy. There are other possible approaches to address these issues that don't include ID verification. It also isn't the golden solution, verified accounts could still be stolen or bought.

You're still arguing from a technical perspective while not addressing the societal issues that online ID verification leads to. Do we as society really want an internet that resembles a gated community where you can only enter with an ID? What about the people we exclude? Should we abandon the free internet just because of bots and sock puppet accounts? What about other ways to address the issue?

This is not a technical issue - it's a societal one. Do we want online ID verification? Are the trade-offs worth it? Do we want to make the internet a place that requires an ID everywhere for age verification or to prove that you're human? What would the implications be?
Regarding your implementation: Most people don't have a passport, so it's a non-starter - but again, this topic is not a technical issue.

> I think we’re on the precipice of this being a requirement to have any faith you’re talking to another human.
Except that it doesn't prove you're talking to a human - it just increases the hurdles for bot operators (buy or steal verified accounts).

Identity checks do not prevent bot noise. They just increase the difficulty for bot operators a bit (steal / buy identities or verified accounts). Added bonus for them: Their bot comments now appear more authentic.

This is what I was wondering too. It doesn't seem genuine. Most people in tech I know will strongly oppose ID checks for internet use, rightfully so.

With the upcoming MCS charging standard you won't need battery swaps for trucks or busses. Even today you have trucks that can charge with up to 400 kW, which is good enough for charging during mandatory pauses or downtimes.

You could set up a monitoring solution that alerts you if one of your devices is suddenly reachable from the internet via IPv6. It will probably never fire an alert but in your case might help you sleep better. IPv6 privacy extensions could help you too.
In practice I don't think it's really an issue. The IPv6 firewall will probably not break in a way that makes your device reachable from the internet. Even if it would, someone would have to know the IPv6 address of the device they want to target - which means that you have to connect to a system that they have control of first, otherwise it's unlikely they'll ever get it. Lastly, you'd have to run some kind of software on that device that has a vulnerability which can be exploited via network. Combine all that and it gets so unlikely that you'll get hacked this way that it's not worth worrying about.

I doubt that most consumer routers expose this functionality. IPv6 NAT is rarely needed and should be avoided. Interestingly enough I stumbled upon a use case today. No IPv6 connectivity at my office but at my dad's house. Since a WireGuard tunnel is layer 3 I can't use router advertisements and the prefix is dynamic, so private IPv6 addresses and NAT66 it is. It was an exercise out of curiosity though, route64.org works much better for IPv6 connectivity.
