These guys (VCs) entire livelihoods rely on tens of thousands of young people throwing away their early years of lives trying to get super rich. Only .01% even see moderate success but PG and co don't care and continue to pump the dream and urge folks to waste their lives to try and make them rich.

> don't get married, don't have children
Bad advice. You’re going to need family connections and loyal people you can bet your life on to survive if the rest of what you’re saying is remotely true.

Those aren't the same workers though. There's a dichotomy of remote workers - some are screwing off during the day and some are working more hours than they should be since it can be hard to unplug from the desk (especially if it's a full remote cmpany with people across four plus timezones).

And money spent on a more expensive house closer to the office vs the same home in an affordable place. It's the main reason I can't go back to San Francisco, once you get used to a less than one million four bedroom house in a pleasant neighborhood you can't go back to living in a shoebox for twice the price, even if it's the most beautiful city in the world.

Places I know that are getting them are generally seeing big time pay (relatively that is) for construction work and then dozens to a hundred of ongoing jobs once the work is done. That doesn't sound like much but it's huge for many of these communities.

What is the increase in jobs/GDP for those communities that have paid more in electricity? A lot of these data centers are built in places with declining population and zero economic prospects for locals within their communities so they're a huge boon.

I wish we’d focus more on living standards than wealth as I think that’s what really matters. “How can we lift up the people with low living standards in the US?” should be the question rather than “How can we keep people from becoming ultra rich?” which I think is what happened in Europe. The only reason wealth should be checked is because of undue influence on politics/power. Otherwise I don’t care if there are 1,000 trillionaires as long as as many Americans as possible have a good quality of life. I think for many the obsession with redistributing wealth comes from a deep seated jealousy.
