It's true for a lot of cases.

Adding almost any restriction only hurts casual users, and attackers are rarely casual users.

Even today, there's a handful of people who make a full living off chess. The owners of chess.com, a few streamers, a handful of super GMs, and chess teachers, and the latter will be automated away.

Chess is a leisure activity, not work, you cannot compare the impact of automation of the two.

Also, chess engines did kill chess. Chess used to be a spectacle on the national stage, from 2000 up until Queen's Gambit and the following streamer boom, chess was largely dead.

Despite the fact that we were asked what our concerns were and shared them 12 days ago, we haven't received ANY response from them after that, complete silence for almost two weeks and counting. So it appears that the reddit admins are not acting in good faith and aren't discussing this with us. They are relying only on vaguely worded threats.

‘This is a courtesy notice to let you know that you will lose moderator status in the community by end of week.’

I was curious so I googled the text "hyprod-20"

It let to a forum from 5 years ago with someone accusing someone else of doing the same thing!

In the end, it seems like it's something google appends to their search

Yes, that was my assumption as well. I was frustrated to see it reach a high of rank 33 and not make the front page.

I later submitted a news article which got flagged despite having additional information. The same issue was met by the third link in this post .
