I originally built ScriptSpool because I wanted to make short code animations for my own development tutorials.

I looked at a few similar tools and projects online. Many of them felt either too limited, while using a full video editor was just too much work for what I wanted to achieve.

So I decided to build something I would actually use: paste some code, choose a theme and animation, adjust the speed, and export.

It started as a very simple typing animation tool. I then added line-by-line playback, GIF export, long PNG screenshots, themes, window styles, and a few other things.

Everything runs in the browser, and your code isn't uploaded to a server for processing.

I'm curious whether character-by-character or line-by-line playback is actually useful for real development tutorials, and what other use cases I might be missing.

Hi HN,

I’ve been exploring OpenClaw recently and found that most of the useful stuff (skills, MCP integrations, deployment setups) is pretty scattered — across GitHub repos, Discord threads, and random blog posts.

So I started putting together this list.

It’s intentionally opinionated — I’m not trying to list everything, just things that seem actually useful or worth looking into.

Still early and probably missing a lot. Would be great to hear what people here are using in practice.

I’m Ethan, an indie developer.

I listen to a lot of podcasts while coding or commuting, and I often want to save interesting insights from episodes. I tried tools like MacWhisper for transcription, but it only works on macOS and the workflow didn’t quite fit what I wanted.

So I built CastLoom Pro.

It’s a desktop app that lets you search, play, download, transcribe, translate, and archive podcasts in one place. The idea is to turn podcasts into something searchable and reusable instead of just passive listening.

Some details:

- Search podcasts from Apple Podcasts - Batch download episodes - Local transcription using Faster-Whisper - Optional translation with DeepL or OpenAI - Export to Markdown / SRT / TXT / JSON - Send transcripts to Notion or Obsidian

Everything runs locally, so audio and transcripts stay on your machine.

It currently supports Windows and macOS.
