<p>Owning a Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th gen, 2019, 4K screen, 16GB RAM. extremely impressed with the hardware, running Linux Mint and going to move to Manjaro.
Initially i tried PopOS! but they removed from Gnome the intermediate scaling (1.5X) of the UI, just like in MacOS you have Display - Scaled options.
I really like the per monitor setting which you don't have in Linux. (or i didn't research enough); e.g. More space on main display (external 4k monitor) and Larger Text on the macbook screen.
I'm also jumping ship due to the worst experience i had in 25 years dealing with technology, 1 month to replace a swollen battery with a 3rd party repair service. Apple throws now all this "complex" hardware issues to 3rd parties since their employees are pressuring them not to execute hazardous repairs in their own "centers"</p>

<p>This move is just a solution in search of a problem.
We still have better internet than you in ALL places, including mobile connectivity, literally everywhere. I can say fiber to the home 250/250 & coax 500/500 dominate the market. There is pumped up ADSL everywhere country-side.
This move is coming unilateraly from a person who doesn't understand internet and woke up and had to be busy with something.
Many IX report a slight increase in capacity, from 10% to 20%.</p>

<p>yes.
to the op,
did you find the line between what you want or think is reasonable to achieve vs. what the person wants?
that's a great act of communication.</p>

<p>just fyi, in "communism" E-Europe everybody was forced to have a job. Vocational or not, efficient for the system or not, was there, mandatory. Thus the "guaranteed" income.</p>

<p>i also find attractive the idea of cultivating the 'maker' & 'tinkerer' in a kid.
why?
Like for the 70s-80s born generation i recognize the 'need' to understand the underlying 'structure' up to a point where it may sparkle interest in or not. Legos, mechanical tinkering, household tinkering, entry level electronics, modeling etc. did the same for us imho.<p>Of course, has to be balanced with other things like arts, sports etc. I don't think anyone is capable of correctly identifying the 'calls' of one's kid unless you see their reactions. If that reaction is biased because the kid sees your passion into something a parent is doing, than be it. (s)he will try to overcome the master in an appropriate setup.</p>
