Zitron's posts reminds me of all the analysts who predicted the collapse of TSLA based on the fundamentals, and recommended shorting it. How does that saying go? "markets can remain irrational a lot longer than you can remain solvent".

There is an immense, coordinated, desperate effort to keep the biggest party in the history of the financial system going, to pour enough fuel into the engine that escape velocity may be achieved against the forces of mathematics.

VCs and big tech are aligned with a system of 'value extraction'. What the author is engaged in is 'value creation', especially organically through distributed systems. Can't have that in the extractive 'squeeze the juice' model currently in play.

It's an interesting concept but the timing is probably too early. If more people had reliable low latency gigabit or ideally 10gbit throughput, then it might start to approach feasibility. There's other blockers too, but that springs to mind immediately.

It's cool to imagine a planet wide neural network interconnected with fiber - the nervous system of a planetary intelligence. But perhaps mushrooms do that already (Alpha Centauri ever relevant).

Key details: Huawei developed IPV6+ standard which includes APN6 - application ID and/or user-group identifier plus performance parameters stamped at the edge to enable fine-grained traffic steering and resource allocation. There's enforcement plumbing in the standard to prevent spoofing it, and it defeats encryption (Carriers don't need to see what's inside the packets if they're stamped atleast semi-accurately with a header). Packets can also be written with explicit ingress/egress paths by the carrier, controlling traffic in a fine grained way. The standard also include SAVI - source address validation, which prevents spoofing, pretty much de-anonymising all network traffic on the standard.

Chinese manufactured networking hardware is already deploying IPV6+ standard and this hardware is also being exported overseas.

Interesting repo, but I don't see comprehensive support for MLX/metal backends. MLX performs significantly better on mac hardware - a 100line PR could add this support.

Additionally this tool might have a lot of value as a repository for performance optimization data. Getting the right combination of settings, local model, backend, on a particular hardware setup is a bit of a crapshoot. Having a database of benchmarked data with settings/hardware combinations would really help the local llm scene take off.

While the points raised are somewhat accurate, the other posts on Dvorak's blog (apparently the son of the creator of the Dvorak keyboard layout) are full of 'big yikes'. Entertaining to read a bit of it.

Also interesting that this kind of partisan piece comes out against sen Cassidy (R) after he voted with Democrats against Trump (Though the accusations in the post have merit).

I feel like Flock cameras (And other Palantir style incursions on our liberties) are sort of a vaccine - a threat and stressor to see how the public immune system reacts.

Because certainly, the technology will keep improving and we're more likely to end up in a complete totalitarian surveillance state if we don't react to this kind of incompetent evil, and are taken completely by surprise by competent evil.

I say this for the entirety of the human civilization on the planet, not just the United States.
