I mean, why would somebody even _want_ this?

That would effectively spell the end of creativity. Humans would slowly lose the basic empathy required to let somebody tell _them_ a story — “it wasn’t what I wanted” :-(

A family friend came round and used it to hook up my Atari ST to a local BBS. Mind-blowing. I got a brief glimpse of the future that day.

Local calls not being free, I wasn’t allowed to repeat the experiment until we signed up for MSN in 1996.

Didn’t stop younger me switching on the acoustic coupler with no computer attached and trying “communicate” with it by making “shhhh” noises into the cups :D

Consider adjusting your perspective. As you’ve said, you ARE the tech lead right now — you just don’t have any peers. Yet.

Prepare for the day when workload increases to the point where you are hiring in your first resource. You are now the senior in the equation.

This can be an exciting time. What’s the first thing you’ll hand over? Does it make sense the way it works now? What would you do differently?

Ask yourself these questions and make the changes now, while you have time. Prepare for the team you don’t have. Yet.

From a marketing standpoint, Apple managed to turn "The Notch" into a feature. Whether they could do the same with "The Lump" is asking a lot IMHO.

Perhaps (as the author says), the engineers could come up with something more elegant.
