The X4 was discontinued and replaced by the "X4 Classic". It does not have USB C.

I never said Canadian-made furniture is inherently superior. My point was simply that the blanket statement that you can't buy a decent couch for around $2k isn't universally true. I bought one in that price range that's solid wood and well-built. It even has removable cushions.

Quirks, nonetheless, but after using the app for a few hours the logic starts to click.

To answer your questions, I'm guessing:

- Pressing Back in YouTube closes the comments so you can continue watching the video.

- If you tap a link in YouTube and it opens a browser, it'll default to an in-app browser with an X in the upper-left. If you've disabled that browser, pressing Back returns you to YouTube.

I won’t disagree with you, KDE is certainly usable from a clean install. But calling GNOME primitive in comparison feels off to me. It was actually KDE’s applets and overall fit and finish that pushed me toward GNOME.

I'd have to disagree with you on that one. I recently migrated to Fedora from Windows 11, which gave me the chance to try Plasma, GNOME, and a couple other desktops.

Plasma is exactly what I don't want in a DE. It’s extremely configurable, but also overwhelming, and I don’t think that’s something the average user would feel comfortable navigating.

I ended up choosing GNOME. It feels visually cohesive, and the design is much more opinionated — they’ve clearly made decisions about what should and shouldn’t be part of the core desktop experience.

Thanks for sharing your comments and perspective. I read an article on HN this morning about housing and the need to build more of it. One of the comments mentioned that social housing construction in Canada dropped significantly in 1995—presumably due to the fallout from Quebec's referendum and the broader context you described.

Great article—thanks for sharing! I did something similar nine years ago with a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. It stayed online for nearly a decade until it went offline at the end of 2024, following Google's decision to sunset my OnHub router.

Initially, I used it as a CUPS server to turn a non-networked Brother printer (HL-2240) into a wireless printer after Google discontinued Google Cloud Print.

The printing project was a lot of fun and inspired me to dive into another challenge: self-hosting. Along the way, I learned a great deal about Apache, SSL certificates, security, and just how fragile SD cards can be!

The print server still works well, though I’ve since downsized to a Raspberry Pi Zero W.

I'm also really into collecting swag from defunct companies—Enron, Lehman Brothers, and Nortel are my favorites. Lately, though, it feels like it's getting harder and harder to find anything from these companies on eBay or Etsy.
