Usually such "international laws" are only advisory and not binding on member nations. After decades of member nations flouting UN "laws" I can't see them as reliable or effective support in most arguments. I support the policy behind the privacy "laws" of the UN, but enforcing them seems to fall short.

You make great points. One of my law professors always said, "clear communication makes for long relationships." He was a small town lawyer that explained our job included:
- making sure both parties understood exactly what the contract meant (legally, businesswise, etc.), and
- asking the parties to talk through any issues (business, legal, etc.) that could arise and how they might want to handle the issue.
Different parties cover these two points in all sorts of ways. You're right, it doesn't necessarily make sense to hire an attorney when the parties are on equal footing, experienced, clearly understand each other's duties, and don't really disagree on how to proceed should an issue arise.
It's kind of like hiring a designer/firm for a website. Some will overcharge for a Wordpress template or they might charge big fees to give you a robust solution that is extreme overkill for your application. But, if you find the right designer/attorney, they will work with you to meet your financial and business needs. That seems to be the hardest part.

Do people believe Warren Buffett?
I don't necessarily mean this statement, but every press article or video appears to be deliberately tailored by him and his team on what to say and how the message will get out. For example, he seems to only work with a few select interviewers, often gives the interview surrounded by products of the brands he invests in, and usually only gives statements to the hungry press when pushing a new deal. Other corporate "celebrities" seems to receive slightly more push back when trying to control the narrative around them. I don't necessarily disagree with him most times, but everything about how his message gets out throws up a red flag for me.

The Federal Rules of Evidence define a "writing" as consist[ing] of letters, words, numbers, or their equivalent set down in any form. The litigation hold most likely defined the writings that should be retained similarly. "Any form" is purposefully chosen in the definition to capture as much as possible. Typically such terms are defined broadly under the reasoning that the court wants to preserve most evidence for trial. The parties can make arguments later as to whether a document is privileged or not.

From the wiki:
As of 2022, Vox reported that no evidence had ever emerged "that the laptop's leak was a Russian plot."[12] In March 2022, The New York Times reported it had authenticated some emails "from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop."[12][13] Also in March, The Washington Post reported that two security experts authenticated thousands of the 129,000 emails, though the vast majority of the laptop contents, including most of its emails, could not be authenticated.[3] Among the emails that The Washington Post was able to authenticate was the Pozharskyi email that formed the basis of the New York Post's original article.[3]
Not trying to be a pain here, just trying to point out that there was some truth to the claims. I've been quick to dismiss such claims as conspiracy before so I was surprised to find some truth to them. I agree though that many outlets ran too far with the story and it was meme'd too much online. Also doesn't really seem to matter to the public discourse these days anyway with all the other problems the US and the world are facing.

That gives a lot of weight to the idea that officials in the Fed (or your country's central bank) and government will make the best decisions for everyone given increased data produced by a digital currency. History doesn't really show that officials make the right decision even with sufficient data. For a small example, until a few months ago many US Treasury and Fed officials insisted that any inflation would be "transitory" at worst. Now many admit they were wrong, but still argue about the state of the economy given such inflation and whether or not the US is in a recession. On a larger scale, many US officials were blatantly wrong about their conclusions regarding the markets going into the 2008 financial crisis, a few have even admitted as much. Even if we assume officials would only make the "right" decision given the right data, it seems unlikely that a digital currency would give officials sufficient knowledge of many factors for the 2008 crisis, e.g. swaps and other financial instruments used by large banks, and the so-called "shadow banking" system.
I could be wrong, but I don't think many citizens would vote for a policy that would give up so much of their privacy, autonomy, and civil rights for the hope that central banks and government officials will make the right economic decisions next time given the data a digital currency provides.

> If all you have (for both worldview & skills) is a hammer...
All too true. Law school was very eye opening in this regard. I can't count the number of times that other students were baffled by technical aspects related to the internet or cybersecurity. All to often, in response to their ignorance, one student would raise their hand to insist we pass legislation requiring anyone working in the technical field to be subject to the decisions of a committee of legislators or propose some quasi products liability statute to make the workers do exactly what "the public" wanted.

+1. Many times the real value an attorney brings is working with the client to tailor the template to their situation and needs. Most parties try to mainly use standard terms, e.g., shipping Incoterms, and language that has been litigated in case law (if in the US) so that the parties can better understand and estimate the likely outcome of any dispute. However, each situation is usually slightly different. Even if we ignored any unique aspects of each contract, each template would have to be tweaked to reflect the unique and changing case law (if in the US) of the jurisdiction governing the contract.
