I never thought about the smell.

Does it smell strong because of it's composition or because the vacuum of space has a strange effect on it? Like the particulates not dispersing enough?

It's hard to argue against that. I suppose it's not that they even exist, it's just the unreasonable amount they profit on the items. If it's purely because they cannot attain items another way, they markup should be more apparent maybe? It just hurts seeing young and disadvantaged people being taken advantage of.

Still waiting on anything to be done about rent to own businesses. The businesses that rely solely on exploiting the people in a bad position bother me so much, they should at least have some kind of limits on their usury.

It seems likely much more effort will go into evaluating the failure than went into designing this submersible. It would be interesting to know how much more.

This reminds me of how long it took me to notice a pattern in my relationships. When I look back, it's so obvious that I was picking a certain kind of person, and behaving in a certain kind of way, that would lead to the same conclusion. But it didn't feel like I was repeating the same story over and over again just to satisfy some malformed part of my psyche. I can't rewire something so deep in me that even effects who I'm attracted to. All I can do is be aware of it, and course correct.

Do you think this is because no one was profiting from your message board community? I'm sure there's several factors, but it takes people who love something to build a presence without motivation for profit.

I began thinking twice before commenting on anything, and then eventually stopped. Even in the most benign subs, you can quickly escalate to Hitler if you deviate from the hive-mind.

I guess my issue is that I'm not all that interested in SETI. It would obviously be amazing if we find other life, and I'm not against funding or people searching. I just think there is plenty to investigate and learn just by studying the endless ocean of galaxies out there.

It's a fair question, and I'm not educated on the subject enough to provide an opinion. Like I said, I'd just heard about this, so I'm not aware how much has gone into it. If it's hitting the figures you're talking about, I would question it as well.

Is Trump ritualistically sacrificing children in the oval office?

They're leaving it up in the air, so you can't call them on writing garbage they barely try to back up.

Many of the people here on HN probably work at much larger corporations than I, so my take might be different. But what I have noticed is a severe lack of interest in hiring UI/UX people. Earlier in my career I had access to at least one UX person I could team up with before starting a new app.

There are some great ui libraries you can leverage these days, and they seem to fool some management into thinking pretty equals well designed. Eventually I end up in a series of meetings where we decide the aesthetics by committee. They don't seem to appreciate that a dedicated person could do it faster and better. But they always ignore my request for such a role.

I recall Hubble often being fodder for late night hosts and other media, but we don't even think about it now that it's proved it's worth many times over. It changed the narrative once it was operational.

Somehow I had not heard about the James Webb Space Telescope before now. The Hubble means a lot to me personally, and I have dreading the day I'd hear it was going out of service. I can't wait to see what this new telescope will provide for us.
